It had a hay like aroma. The body was kind of thin with hint of an astringent aftertaste. The flavour was good, a nice balance of malt and roasted flavour. Really reminded me of newcastle. This isn’t brown at all, it’s dark red. I mean, it’s lighter than black but brown is not just lighter than black, it’s brown. That aside, as stated earlier, this beer dark red, some would call it garnet. It’s a nice beer--slightly roasty, not much hops. It’s easy to drink but hardly what I’d call burley. Very drinkable but forgettable. joeycapps (1466), Waterdown, Ontario, Canada

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 10, 2004 Dark reddish brown with a moderate off white head. Interesting aroma, with a slightly nutty sweet maltiness with a hint of rast malt. Flavour gets a little bit of everthing foreshadowed by the aroma. Nutty roast lingers in the aftertaste. Palate is pleasant but a bit light in the finish. Nice beer, thanks Obisbeer. shadey (1501), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 2, 2004 Pour is a creamy brown with a quarter inch of frothy head. The aroma was nutty and apatizing. The flavor was quite rich and tastey. Not awesome... especially since it just followed the Rogue Hazelnut. But still a nice beer. Aurelius (2654), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 12, 2004 Smells like a glass of super-sweet iced tea. Muted hopping, licorice flavored, sweet, homebrewish, somewhat nutty, some grassiness. Long hoppy finish which clings. Medium-light body. OK label, good woody brown color. Pleasant mouthfeel Overall, a quaffable brew, nothing spectacular, just all around decent.
