But it has that airy aroma of a macro. At first I didn't distinguish much flavor, but a tinge of hop bitterness saved it from awfulness. Towards the end of the glass, as it warmed, more of a decent character and flavor shone through, but still an average beer. kumite56 (462), Cordova, Tennessee, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 29, 2003 Decent beer with no adjuncts. Nice clear amber beer with a large rapidly diminishing off white head. Cr3eamy moutfeel and nice balance of malt with the lightly bitter hopp finish. Decent balance. bbrock81 (221), Le Mars, Iowa, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 19, 2003 Not a bad beer, but not an espacially good beer either. On par with your typical Leinie's or Sam. Aroma was decent, not real distinctive. Looked very nice, a dark red-brown-amber color (the best aspect of the beer was the appearance). The flavor was pretty boring, bordering on standard. A bit better than macros, but not much. OD40oz (603), Box Elder, South Dakota, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 24, 2003 Dry, musty lagery aroma. Dry malty flavor, lightly bittered and woody. A little astringent. Long pecan-bitter finish. Very solid medium body. Clipart label, twistoff cap. ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jul 10, 2003 Draught. Aroma is a bit off. First sips were not pleasant, but I had previously been having a Fosters, which is different enough to require a palate adjustment period. Light amber in color. No lace and small head. Some bitterness on the tongue but too much malty off-ness. With the exception of Finnegans, my experience with James Page's beers has been less than stellar. argo0 (7027), Washington DC, USA

| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | May 19, 2003 I've rather liked some of the James Page brews, but this didn't please. Nothing special in appearance--bright, light copper/orange color with a loosely formed and quickly dissipating head. The aroma was enchanting--caramel and effervescent apple. Then the flavor was a mess--some nuttiness and caramel, but also metallic, oddly bitter, and ugly sweet. Although a bit flat, the palate had a nice butter edge to it. Still, this beer couldn't make it past the fact that when it was in my mouth, my tastebuds were in revolt.
