On tap at the brewery. Pours murky brown with a mahogany beige thin head. Light aromas of fruit and malts. Malty fruity flavors. Dried fruits, peat, and a touch of alcohol with a pleasant earthiness. Not bad.

Part of a sampler at the restaurant. I note that I had a cold when I visited and could not get a great sample of the aroma of the beers that I sampled. Not bad beer. Good hop flavor.

Had this one on draught as part of the sampler at the brewpub in Ludington, Michigan. Best scotch ale I’ve ever had. Cloudy, dark brown pour with a foamy tan head. Almost bizzare cedar nose and taste, with an awesome smooth maltiness, no alcoholic aftertaste. Wow.

On tap at the brewery. Muddy orang-brown body, thick cream head. Earthy, toasty aroma with nice sweetness. Creamy palate, with lots of brown sugar and toast, accentuated by light peat. Long, bitter, earthy hops finish. I detected a hint of apple, too. Alcohol is warming but not overbearing. Average complexity. This beer sipped nicely after a long day in a bog and cedar swamp.

Pours a clear brown color with ruby highlights and a ring of offwhite lace. Weak aroma of toffee and earthy malts. Mild flavor of toffee and earthy malts, the flavor is stronger than the aroma but still the malt feels weak and thin. Light to medium body with a liquorous texture and gentle carbonation.

All the brews were here were served really cold, so I ordered this one and let it sit for a while to warm up. This may have caused the aroma to be a little flat as I could just get a little dark caramel, but it was good. Great mahogany brown color with just a little light showing through the edges. Diminishing, creamy, off-white head. Brown-sugar, caramel, some peat malt (smoke?). Initially good flavor, thin middle and a warming finish with lots of good flavor: brown sugar and another hint of that peat/smoke flavor. Medium body, alcohol in the finish.

Draft at brew pub. Dark ale with a medium off-white head. Aroma was medium malty with a sweet tone. Flavor was smoky malt, toffee and alcohol. Medium finish. Good brew house, but this is not their strongest work.
