Smooth palate. vanvenlo (784), Glen Iris, Australia Jan 6, 2006 1 Oct 05 - NIce big fruity choc malt hop aroma. Cloudy dark brown colour with an OK head. Malt roast flavour with a fruity bitterness. Dry finish with a roasted malt lingering flavour and a thickish mouthfeel. mullet (763), Melbourne, Australia Nov 12, 2005 Only available in magnums at this stage apparently. I like the concept in theory but they’re just too damn hard to pour from. Clear black with purply tints, reasonable head retention. Steamy yeast character dominates the aroma, but after that dissipates there’s a nice dark chocolatey maltiness, soft roastiness, jersey caramels and fruit of the forest yoghurt, but it’s all pretty subtle and not particularly good. Luckily it tastes a lot better. It starts quite roasty before a nice juicy, fruity sweetness, then a roasty, bitter, slightly rough and chalky finish. There’s some creamy malt character and a light tartness from the fruit. Fat, juicy mouthfeel. The use of the fruit is excellent, but the base beer is only average. Not a bad effort - I was a bit concerned at what this would be like but it was pretty decent.
