motelpogo (4124), Plzen, Czech Republic Mar 27, 2008 bottled, many thanks to mullet - i’m glad that this wasn’t the beer that leaked in his backpack, although that one still turned out alright. bright amber, slim but steady head, aroma of butterscotch and menthol, plenty of cookie doughiness and caramel, some fruit salad and plenty of bitterness. quality stuff
JCB (1066), Durham, North Carolina, USA Oct 6, 2008 Bottle shared by durhambeer - thanks, Bob! Dark amber, nearly cloudy pour, with a thick creamy head that appeals. Very sweet, vaguely floral nose, but one that dissipates too quickly. There’s a slightly chewy, grainy quality to the taste that seems to cut against the attributes in the aroma. Some diacetyl in there too. A bit of a bite, waxy finish. Not quite so much body for such a malty beer. Chrism86 (91), Melbourne, Australia Oct 4, 2008 I’ve probably had this about a thousand times but never bothered writing up notes...is one of my favourites!
Pours murky amber with significant tan coloured head that persists. Aromas are dominated by resin hops and sweeet malt that brings caramel and apricot - could smell it all day! Palate is full bodied, sweet malt carries spiced caramel and dried apricot while the onset of spicey resin hops cleanse the palate. Hop presence is intense, but doesn’t become aggressively bitter. Little doubt that this is one of the best aussie micros around...has been for some time and will most likely continue to be!! durhambeer (535), Durham, USA Oct 4, 2008 Bottle brought from Australia (thanks, Kat!). Amber pour with small off-white head. Very interesting, unique nose: very malty, some earthy floral hops; bitter and similar to an English IPA. Some wet dog on the nose; perhaps an old bottle? Definitely not as hoppy as American IPAs, and barely even as hoppy as English ones. Really not bad, though. Interesting, for sure. emacgee (1132), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Oct 3, 2008 Pours a murky still amber with a thin yellow head. The nose is earthy malt, little to no hop profile coming through, some leafy hop character. The flavor is malty, earthy English malt flavor, light bitterness, some mild hop character. The palate is dry with a mild waxy bitterness. gam (576), brisbane, Australia Sep 28, 2008 Good head and carbonation in a misty copper coloured ale with aroma caramel, fruit, malt and nutty.Flavour citric malty, bitter(okay) stays around nicely, caramel, hops really are good.It is bitter but settles well with the malt strength to leave a nice taste on the the palate at the finish, okay stuff.
