Jämtlands remains one of the best breweries in Sweden and this remains one of their finest. Unfortunately most pubs, even in Jämtland (the region of origin) itself seem to no longer have it on tap and only on bottle. This beer has lots of taste of hops and the colour is none other than bärnsten (amber).

For some reasons I have managed to miss this beer on several occasions. When I finally had it, I found it just as good as one can expect from the best brewery in Sweden. Well mixed aroma with the hops dominating. Hoppy and malty flavor with a quite mild finish.

The foam is thin and white. The colour is clear amber (“bärnsten” is amber in Swedish). The smell is full of malt, Challenger hops and a bit sourish. The carbonation is balanced, long lasting and just right for this kind of beer. The taste includes the characteristic Jämtlands Bryggeri-elements: A fine dry bitterness, lots of balanced malts and lots of Challenger and maybe some Bramling hops. The aftertaste is bitter and well bodied. Solid, as expected from these fine brewers!

Pours a foamy off-white head on a clear orange golden body. Mostly hoppy aroma but also malt, toffee and caramel. Very nice! Flavor is bittersweet with a sour undertone. Malty and hoppy with toffee notes. Little thin in the finish but a very nice and tasty beer from a very fine Swedish brewery! Thanks rickgordon for trading me this!

Golden/orange color, with a medium white thick head. Very nice, good lacing too. What an aroma! Fruity, malty, some toffee, caramel and then great hops to back it up. The flavor is malty with a good backup from the hops. Its truely a hop explosion. A little watery. Great one. Thanks to rickgordon for this one.

The aroma is sweet and hoppy. The color is orange and the head is fine but disappearing. The flavor is sweet and hoppy. A really good lager.

(on draught at the Ardbeg Room, Stockholm)This is one hop explosion. Amber/Orange color. Wonderful lasting creamy head. Notes of toffee in the flavor and richly hoppyaromatic. Fine bitterness. Is there a vanilla flavor too?
