Rich aromas of hay, biscuits, rather bready, grassy. Some nice barbecue smoke on the nose. I’ m very pleased with this pilsener at this point. The flavor is bready, malty, then it turns grassy. Rather strong and aromatic bitterness. Again some hay. A clean bitter finish follows. A very enjoyable pilsener. After several samplings: The hop profile isn’t exactly impressive. But I really like this beer’s strong bitterness. Russo (600), Campinas, Brazil

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 16, 2007 Pours a slightly hazed macro yellow with a big puffy billowy creamy white head. Though the head went down quite a bit, it stuck around. Hmmm, skunk. For shame. I will try to not penalize this beer too much for it, poor green bottle. Grainy with peppery hops. Very dry with perhaps a bit of sulfur? Not really offputting, though maybe it’s just the skunk. A nice rich fully body for a pilsner, though it’s still liquidy and refreshing. Really nice. The flavor is in line with the nose. Alas, the skunk. Dry grainy malt with some light sweetness. Peppery peppery hops. Really dry and refreshing. A clean peppery finish with a lingering bitter aftertaste. I just don’t see how this is a different style from Bohemian pilsners, but oh well! I’d look for a 6er of this if it was from a freshly opened case and I were heading to the beach. ultraspank (866), Dublin, Ohio, USA

Pours a light yellow gold. The ultra stiff rocky white frothy head is fully lasting and leaves light lace. Great balance. Pretty bold finish for the style. The light body is creamy and soft. This brew is really an excellent example of the style. gottalottaibu (243), charlotte, North Carolina, USA

Bottle from Quinns. Bloody awful. I just don’t like pilsners full stop. Such a shame Ingrid chose this as her last beer with us, but hey each to their own... Thank Eric I had some Earthmonk to wash it down with. highlandlad (1278), Sydney, Australia
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 24, 2007 A genuinely bitter German pilsener. Seemed heavily hopped for the style but not to its detriment. From a bottle it raised one of those astonishingly tall heads that I’ve associated with German pilseners since a school exchange trip that my mates and I went on at the age of 15 because the drinking age in West Germany was 16 and we thought we might get served. Drank ’til we puked. Almost 30 years later I still remember the long delays after ordering a beer while the barmaid waited for the head to settle. This particular bottle was slightly skunked, but otherwise clean and grainy. It was faintly sour and not especially fresh-smelling. Pity - would love to try this on draught. Much better in the mouth, where it’s initially all soft malts and diacetyl before a very firm bitter finish. Good bitterness. Nice soft carbonation. Very dry in the swallow. Grassy, clean and rounded with some late herbal astringency. (330ml bottle from Vintage Cellars, Clovelly. BB 5/10/07)
