Thin palate and body, somewhat nasty bitterness (and I usually love hops). This beer is sadly overrated, I probably won’t bother with this ever again. | 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jul 23, 2006 I had this classic pils for the first time yesterday evening. I bought it from the swedish off licence store Systembolget and thus had it from bottle. It poured pale yellow with big white top but I must say I was somewhat disapionted for the only taste I could really sense was that of bitter hoppiness. I guess there are notes of dry floral hoppy tastes and aromas as well but that was pretty much it. I didn’t dislike really (even though it had a bit watery palate) but I will probably not buy it again. Maybe from tab to se if that is different. However, I do suspect that this well known lager suffers from transportation and is problably better (and more balanced) in its native country of northern Germany. Maybe I’ll re-rate if I get the opportunity. themadmumis (344), Westminster, Maryland, USA
| 1.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 2/5 | 2/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Jul 11, 2006 I must have had a bottle that cycled way too many times. Nothing great about this beer that I can tell from this...I’ll have to go seek a draft style and re-rate. notholding2 (3), Hurricane, West Virginia, USA does not count | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 17, 2006 This light northern German Pils has the distinct flavor of herbal grass and a slight bitterness that comes from the combination of unsual water and hops. It is not to everyone’s taste, and is clearly different from the heavier malty Lager and Pilsner beers of southern Germany and the full-bodied Pilsners of the Czech Republic. It is, alas, bottled in green glass and so is best enjoyed either on tap or from a closed box. Rballs01 (264), Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Jun 16, 2006 I enjoyed this pils ICE cold. Poured pale yellow/gold. The flavor was sharp and skunky. It was crisp and refreshing like a pilsner should be but much to dry. The stank set up camp on my tounge and didn’t move on. I tried to respect the history of this beer but there’s something about drinking 100 year old well water that caused continuous verping. hopscotch (5555), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Jun 9, 2006 Bottle... Clear, pale yellow lager with a large, frothy, white head. Good retention. Breadsy, earthy nose with hay, honey, herbal hops and a suggestion of white bread. The flavor is decently balanced with light malt and tongue-numbing, peppery hops. Light bodied and fizzy. Lengthy, metallic-bitter finish. I had hoped for more from this classic. DrnkMcDermott (1871), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 5, 2006 Sampled from bottle. This one always shows up when our homebrew club has Pilners as style of the month. This one does have some distinguishing characteristics: Light in color and taste, but very dry in finish. Flavor profile reminded me more of a Dutch lager (and it is brewed pretty close to there). Hoppy bitterness all right. A good beer to have with your meal.
