| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Oct 10, 2005 Poured very pale golden with a fizzy off-white head. Aroma of grassy hops and earth... hmm, from that well, perhaps? Very bland flavor. I detect nothing of interest except burnt corn and a touch of bitter hops. Body is full enough but too carbonated for my liking. Blech. JorisPPattyn (5183), Antwerpen, Belgium
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 27, 2005 Clear pale gold; good yellowish creamy head, leaving lace; Dry grainy nose, some garden herb or moss aroma, a whiff of wet dog. Very dry, sharp-bitter taste, partly hoppy, partly metallic, some vegetable, also walnut peel. Gets sweeter after a while. Warming up, I finally manage to pinpoint an aroma, which has been disturbing me: pure cristalline sulphur. Sharp metallic MF, utterly dry, seems to give a lighter impression than it is. I used to like this one better it would seem. I’m not so sure it’s the beer that has changed, though one never knows. Tastes rather industrial. CharlesDarwin (1849), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 23, 2005 Thin lemon yellow pour, with lots of carbonation and nice super white crisp creamy head. Plain wheaty malt aroma with so depth, but strong. Flavor is more plain malt, with lots of good texture and a few subtle nuances, but no real depth. Some smack of whole grain crackers. Palate is a little dry. Finishes smooth and clean. A little hoppy metallic taste that makes this beer a tinge off. Thanks ClarkVV!
DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 18, 2005 (11.2 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with bkelley68, thanks Brian!) Not a German brand I’ve seen out here on the west coast. But wow, best before 28-Apr-06? That’s some serious shelf life for a pilsener in a green bottle. But I’ve kept it sequestered from light in my cave-like bedroom, so no issues with skunking here. Spicy, grainy and heavily grassy nose isn’t bad, but isn’t terribly compelling. Grainy maltiness is well-balanced by a classic German hoppiness, spicy and moderately bitter. Light bodied, but clean and crisp on the palate. Clear, straw colored body is topped by a standard white head that fades to a film. Nothing too extraordinary here, but a nice, classic German pilsener with a nice flavor and refreshing palate that makes it a good choice for a warm day.
