ROGUE (621), Newark, Delaware, USA Oct 27, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours a light amber color with a decent fizzy off white head that fades fast. Biscuity malt aromas with some light fruitiness as well as a slight hops. Smooth biscuity malt dominates the flavor with the hops hanging in the background until the bitter and fruity finish. IrishBoy (2686), Bakersfield, California, USA Oct 20, 2009 355 ml bottle from Sandy’s, SLO. Nose is nutty caramel with some light diacetyl. Clear amber with a medium beige head. Flavor is very lightly bitter with the caramel and diacetyl. BDawg82 (33), Jackson, Mississippi, USA Jun 10, 2009 Imminently drinkable. Does not lunge into the pitfalls of similar beers-not too sweet, pleasing bitter, great aroma. I discovered this beer in the Young Avenue Deli in Memphis, TN. The deal was (if I remember correctly-this was several years ago) to drink ten draft pints (presumably, the intention was not all in a single trip), get a free T-shirt. I was planning to sample a variety of imports that night. I won’t say if I got the souvenier, but John Courage played a singlehanded role in the effort that evening. After the first, I lost all interest in sampling others. ben4321 (957), Rockville, Maryland, USA Mar 17, 2009 Location:
Originally discovered this one a few years back at the Total Wine in Richmond, VA. 12 oz bottle
Overall Impression:
One of my favorite/go-to beers. Wonderfully drinkable smooth, amber beer. It really just works, and holds additional value for me, as one of my first favorite beers, hence the probably bloated rating, especially when compared to most others. DerWeg (748), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 8, 2009 Called "John Courage Amber" - Norwegian Jewel cruise (in Maltings bar) - pours indeed amber, nearly still fine carbonation honeyed malts and fruit notes. Good suggestion of bitter hops slakes the thirst. Rciesla (3510), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Dec 12, 2008 Bottle. Pours an amber body with an off white head. Sweet malt, toasted malts, lightly bitter and nutty. caruso187 (3), Mount Washington, Kentucky, USA does not count Jul 16, 2008 Thin and watery but has a great taste. Very easy to drink with a bold after taste that leaves you wanting another and another and another.... phishpond417 (1861), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jun 17, 2008 This brew pours a bright clear amber body with an aroma of nuts, caramel and cinammon. moderately malted, small thin white head with plenty of fruitiness. Finishes a little off dry.
