Smells plain lightly barley bad malt and weak hop. Palate is coated well but thin and lightly carb. Flavor is pretty bland a dry grass hop and an over mild malt w/ some wheaty grainy pieces. Pretty plain. zach8270 (2131), Henrietta, New York, USA

The aroma is slightly sweet with nice malt undertones. The taste is very sweet as well with hints of malt, toffee, molasses, and biscuit. Not much hops in this one. Very creamy and smooth. Although it poured amber in color, it wasn’t an amber ale. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it okay. I’ve been drinking lots of American ales lately, so this European style was different. It had aroma of sweet malt and taste had more hop bitterness than I expected. Like I said, it was okay. I understand its current 42 rating. TheBeerGod (3169), Newport News, Virginia, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 5, 2005 Bottle. Had no idea this was retired and I can’t find a date on it at all. Hope it’s not that old. My label states "John Courage Amber" and "Imported Premium Beer". I’m assuming this is the same. Pours amber with a tall foamy tan head. Nice lacing on this. Gossamer "spider webbing" in the foam. Nose is malty and slightly hopped with caramel notes and some tea notes and light flowery notes. Taste is semi-sweet with light Euro hop bitterness, flowers, light tea, caramel, and hints of fruit (melon). Body is light and sort of fizzy but not annoying. Finishes with more sweet malts, light flowers, tea, caramel, and dried fruits. Maybe a hint of trail mix as well. Not too bad. dp (512), uniontown, Ohio, USA
