Poured a dep and clear mahogany color with a very small sized head. Aromas of vanilla, light bourgon, some wood and some dark fruits. I was really into the aroma. Tastes of vanilla (lighter than the aroma), sweet brown sugar, dark fruits and caramel. Thinner body. CaptainCougar (5523), Rockville, Maryland, USA

Aroma of big bourbony oak and sweet caramel malt. Starts fairly full and caramely sweet with good bourbon balance toward a slightly drier German lager yeasty finish with some lingering earthy buttery oakiness. A pretty good brew. goldtwins (4084), Nesconset, New York, USA

Poured a slightly hazed ruby color with a brown tint and a minimal head. The aroma had light notes of bourbon over doughy and grapey notes. Some raisins and peaty aspect as well. The flavor was sweet and fruity with some peaty character. More raisins. Meidum bodied. beerguy101 (3946), Newark, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 2, 2006 This dopplebock pours a dark brown color from bottle (#37 of 50). Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is caramel, sweet, brown sugar, fruit and a touch of bourbon. Medium to full bodied dopplebock. Malts are fruity and sweet, lots of brown sugar and bourbon flavors. Very smooth tasting. The bourbon and wood flavors go well with the sweetness of the dopplebock. Nice beer. Hides the alcohol well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. Thanks to egajdzis for sharing this one. egajdzis (3636), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA

I see everyone that I had this with has already rated this. Eric, Tom, Mike, Steve. Thanks to eric for the growler of this @ Hopdog’s. Pours a nice clear ruby red, but without much carbonation and no head. i think we figured that the cap was faulty and didnt seal properly. Aroma of sweet fruits like dates and raisins, some brown sugar, and light bourbon alcohol on the nose. Flavor also had a less than expected bourbon character, still decent though, with thick sweet malts, caramel, ripe fruits, and a light earthy woodiness in the end. Nice easy finish on this one. Growler was about 5 days old but might not have been sealed properly by the brewpub (something seemed to be wrong with the cap). Pours a translucent red amber with no head. Aroma of vanilla, caramel, dark fruits, wood and bourbon. Flavor I was picking up some of the same very sweet and a little watery.
