Full of bourbon, coconut, and caramel with a creamy mouthfeel. If I didn’t know better, I’d think this was an imp stout. I love being pleasantly suprised by a beer as opposed to the constant hype fest that occurs with some brews on this site that are simply overrated. This is way underrated.

Was happy we tried a third at the Cold Spring booth as the first two were just bad. This was a nice surprise. Very enticing malt aroma and flavor that was fairly rich with carmel, cream and something that reminded me of some kind of exotic tropical nut. Really nice for a cheep beer. beerguy101 (3929), Newark, California, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Nov 26, 2009 Sampled on 10/30/2009. This American Strong Ale/Imperial Stout(?) pours a light brown color from a 12oz bottle. Small sized tan foamy head. The aroma is nutty, chocolate, coffee and honey. A medium to light bodied beer. The malts are chocolate and coffee, honey and butter. No oak and very little bourbon, just some butter every once in a while. Thin and watery this beer is what exactly? An attempt to make a bourbon barrel aged beer with aging it in a barrel? Not very good and I don’t think we had a bad bottle. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. JPDIPSO (4908), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 2, 2009 Very dark brown color with a moderate tan head. Heavy aromas with dark caramel, soy sauce, bourbon, hint of vanilla, oak, and coffee grounds. Fairly thin in feel. Quick boozy. Start is mild with pale malt. Somewhat buttery in the middle, with whiskey, oak and beernuts. Light corn sweetness in the finish. A strong, fairly simple strong ale. For the price, this is a great winter warmer. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 14, 2009 Fucking awesome. I live in San Diego, so I get to see these tools line up for the latest Lost Abbey flat bullshit for $35 a bottle (yes, I am one), but for 11 bucks a 6 pack, at 9.1 abv, this does just fine without all the nonsense. This site should be called RareBeer.com because that’s how shit get’s decided. This is good beer. The fact you can get it in twist off bottles should deter you from trying it. Lots of oak and bourbon on the nose and a complex, rich pour. A nice beer, kind of reminded me of a thinner Angels share really. mjg74 (1997), La Mesa, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 17, 2009 Bottled. Very dark in color upon pouring. Strong roasty aroma. Some vanilla and chocolate. Some coffee as well. Nice bourbon scent. Quite full flavored. Good roasted malts along with some hoppiness. Very nice bourbon flavorings. Very good for $1.79 a bottle. Alcohol isn’t noticable. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 4, 2009 Deep brown with a tan head. Big roasty, nutty smoky aromas. Rich, hearty flavors of medium dark malts with fatty smoked almonds. Finishes with a lightly sweet boozy bourbon taste. Not bad.
