John Sleeman Presents India Pale Ale

Bottle. Golden colored-a little darker than their Cream Ale-with a fluffy but short lived white head. Does leave a little lace. Flowery hop nose with no discernable malt aroma and a little sourness. Fairly thin, well carbonated and moderately bitter without as much hop flavor as I had hoped. More perfumey and flowery than fruity or citric. No, not as hoppy as an American IPA-nor as hoppy as many APA’s. Nor was I expecting it to be. Would be refreshing very cold in the summer, which is not really how I want an IPA to be. O.K. beer, but I’ll stick to their lagers for cold easy drinking refreshment.

12 oz bottle IPA 46*. IPA....hardly, maybe I am just too spoiled living in the Pacific NW. Pours a dark amber with a huge frothy head and extremely carbonated. Sour metallic nose with little to no hop aroma. Taste is similiar, strange acidic and metallic flavors that go on for a long time even on the back end. Maybe a good beer to have on a hot summer day and there is nothing else available.

nothing special, not much on the hops. slight amount of malt. after taste if acidic. nose is malty.

Better than I expected from Sleemans. Lightly hopped compared to American IPAs and less obviously North American in its hopping. A little thin in the mouth, a little more floral, a little less citrus than I prefer. Still, for a mass market brewer this is nicely and intensely malted and hopped.

Poured from a bottle into a shaker, from a Sleeman variety pack. Pours a very dark, clear amber. Thick white head, medium lasting. Aroma of hops. Thin mouthfeel. Slightly bitter. Carbonated, acidic feeling on the tongue. Bit of an aftertaste, agree with others sort of metallic on the back end. Not a bad beer, but wouldn’t buy or seek out again.

Pours a three finger, off-white head that fades to a shallow layer leaving a good lace. Almost clear light amber color. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Hoppy nose. Start hoppy, mid way bits of sweetness that gives way to a hoppy dry finish. Not as hoppy as some American IPAs. $1.29 for a 330ml bottle from John’s Grocery Iowa City, IA. Label is IPA 46* Ale not John Sleeman Presents . . . .

Poured an effervescent golden/amber with a fizzy white head. Aroma of lightly floral citrus and grass with a light touch of pine and alcohol. Flavor is rather light with notes of orange and lime and some dry grassy hops. The bitterness is restrained and far from the biting attention-grabbing sensory trip that I’m used to from IPAs. Body is thin and a little flat. Refreshing and light, this would probably serve better as a golden ale than as an IPA.

This bottled brew from a restaurant poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized tan colored bubbles that were and left behind a transparent orange brown colored body and a good lacing. The aroma was malty cream ale like and mild hop. The mouth feel was very tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of hops and mild caramel. A decent one that I would consider buying again.
