bought as a 0.5L can from Malta. pours a lovely coppery coloured liquid under a foamy white top. good taste and not that much dry to the palate. good english brand - this is my favourite style of beer.

RATED 2.7: 440ml can, "Original Bitter" 3.8% abv. Dark copper color, big frothy white head. Subdued aroma of sour rye bread. Medium carbonation. Malty, slightly metallic taste, hops rather in the background. Stronger flavor as you keep drinking. Medium bitter finish that disappears quickly. Serve this one cool. Decent, but not very distingusihed English "Bitter". Ok! ------ 3.4 : 500ml can, "John Smith Extra Smooth" 4 % abv) - How can these two be the same beer if the abv is different? Anyway, due to the plastic ball inside, the "Extra Smooth" variety is much more highly recommended! Dark copper color, huge white head that stays for a long time and sticks to the glass. Again, the nitrogen really impresses with an almost carbon-free mouthfeel as if directly from the cask (And I’ve drunk many "Extra Smooths" from the cask in London!), also the beer feels more rounded and altogether more characterful. Notes of malt, nuts and rye bread also account for a stronger taste and much smoother, oilier mouthfeel. Get THIS one!

Draught @ the James Joyce, Firenze. Pours appealing translucent dark copper, with compact and durable off-white head. Not too much on the nose, but very smooth on the palate, though not big on the flavours, with some smoky malts and hops in evidence.

Nitrocan. Very smooth and nice bitter. Not much aroma and not as much hop taste as other bitters.

From can. Loves the smooth ales, but this is not as good as some of the other ones.

Nice foamy head and smooth taste of barley, slightly sweet flavour as well. Not much of an aroma. Good English pint if you ask me.
