| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Aug 28, 2008 Smell and looks alright, its too funky in a bad way for me. The malts are too tangy and the rest of the flavor feels soapish.
not one for the casual drinker. nick76 (2684), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Aug 28, 2008 The aroma is funky and wild with tartness and sweetness. There is malt, hops, and wood. The appearance is amber with an ever foamy head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is thin. Overall I don’t like this one very much. ucusty (1908), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 27, 2008 Copper pour with orangy hues. Fizzy tan head and decent lace. Funky acidic, & hoppy aroma which is very unique especially for the style. Oak, earthy flavors up front. Finishes bitter and dry with notable hint of hops, and brown sugar; or maybe caramelized sugar xmarcnolanx (800), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 26, 2008 Aroma is sweet, yeasty, crisp, acidic and funky.
Taste is sweet, hoppy, bitter, some caramel notes, dull, funky, mint, medicinal.
These are my initial reactions to the beer. Now, in rating form, here we go:
Aroma is very cereal initially, with a pronounced yeastiness and crisp, acidic character.
Keeps a huge, dirty head full of holes in between the rocky crags of foam.
Taste is initially funky-sour, but quickly turns medicinal and dusty.
Around the home stretch, the beer finishes sweet, slightly hoppy, and with a lingering medicinal numbness.
Very decent.
I have it in the fridge cooling down, this one was batch 288/289 and was at cellar temp (60ish). We’ll see if it improves as it gets colder. GeneralGao (3071), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 25, 2008 750ml bottle. Poured a clear dark orange color. The head was bubbly, sticky, and off white with good retention. A bit of lace was left behind. Attractive, funky aroma including the likes of flowery hops, vinegar, toffee, and a hint of brown sugar. Light to medium bodied and effervescent. Dry with mild acidity throughout and mild finishing bitterness. Very earthy with flavors including the likes of leafy iced tea, subdued mango, and wet stone (especially at the end). There were also hints of toffee and white wine vinegar. To categorize this a bitter (as above) is a huge stretch, but it’s pretty tasty. jetzler (622), oklahoma city, Oklahoma, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Aug 25, 2008 Bottle, nice malt aromas balanced by light hops, nice brown color with a frothy tan head. Yeast is dominant as well. Wow nice spice, balanced against medium malts, finishing with a decent hops finish. I like this one quite a bit its an easy drinker, but has nice complexity. edden (927), cow- lumbus, Ohio, USA

Medium brown bodied with a thick and rocky almond colored head. Plenty of lace - clings to glass. Large hop flavor which also includes cheddar, hay, oak barrel and yeast. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 23, 2008 750ml bottle courtesy of Mcbackus. Pours a lovely hazy red, amber color with a fierce white head. Aroma is hops with some fruit scents. Dry, fizzy palate. I drank the beer at fridge temp and at first the bitterness was almost overwhelming. As the beer warmed the bitterness calmed down and the beer became more enjoyable. Some intense hop flavor as well as apples, pears as well as some spice notes.
