ABUSEDGOAT (1924), California, USA Jun 23, 2008 Darker orange, moderate to large head with good lacing and retention. Aroma is bret, orange peel, light oak, citrus. Somewhat reminds me of Orval, I’m pretty optimistic at this point. Unfortunately, finish isn’t that well balanced. Lacks the finesse and dryness of Orval, this is somewhat sweet. Still solid.
Ughsmash (3085), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Oct 13, 2008 750mL bottle, Batch 267,268. Poured brilliant garnety-amber with a creamy, well-retained cap of eggshell head. The aroma was dry, spicy, and musty with a healthy dose of Brett.. lemon zest rolled in ever-so-slightly afterward and paired well with the dated wood and earthy notes.. balance was spot on. The flavor did not dissapoint.. tangy lemon zest was laced throughout and ended in a mighty fine refreshing finish.. peppery spices and old dusty farmhouse were also found at multiple points.. complementary sourdough bready sweetness supporting it all. Lighter-bodied and lively on the palate with plenty of carbonation.. the added hoppage (from Bam) had a bit of floral influence and worked alright (though I still prefer Bam).. excellent stuff! zebracakes (1007), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 12, 2008 Bomber. Batch 288/289. Pours cloudy orange ruby, huge off white head. Aroma is funky, musty, tart, and woodsy. Flavor is tangy, tart, woody, some peat (hops), and bitterness that lingers on the tongue. SuzyGreenberg (1043), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 11, 2008 750 ml bottle - thanks to colin for this; light gold with thin white head; aromas of apples, raw yeast and orange peels; woody and slightly sour (of course); green apples dominate; dry and bitter with some barnyard funk Marsiblursi (1432), Gö te la borrrrg, Sweden Oct 10, 2008 Updated: Oct 11, 2008(Bottle) Pours glowing orange amber to grayish brown with a creamy off-white head. The aroma holds soft and well-balanced notes of funky horse blanket/barnyard-ish Brett, toasted bread/dry, cracker-like malt and grassy/herbal/woody/hay-ish hops. A great deal of tart, sourish, green apple cider and lemon/lime/orange peel citrus is also notable. Very dry on the nose. The flavour is toasted malty, barnyard-ish yeasty, citric/apple-ish fruity and grassy, woody and herbal hoppy. Light, light sweet. The dryness and the noble hoppiness is fantastic but the mouthfeel is too watery to be ass kicking. Medium carbonated. Light to medium bodied. Rciesla (910), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Oct 6, 2008 Bottle. Pours a hazy orange yellow body. Lots of JP funk, acidic fruit, orange, lemon with a matly backbone. Light etoh. Some like wood and hops. Decent.
