Smells funky, fruity and earthy with lots of bourbon and oak. The flavor is Flemish- tart and bourbony. Medium to full-bodied and astringent with lively carbonation. Lengthy, dry finish. Another great effort from J.P.! IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA

Aroma of sweet and sour cherries... very nice. Taste is some cherry and doughiness with a dry finish. Pretty nice. Brigadier (1240), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA

Thanks for sharing this - it was a nice nightcap on a great day of tasting many highly respected beers. The caramelly brown body had a sour aroma of cherries and oak chips. The taste was a subtle shift. Instead of cherries, it was like sour apple juice, chocolate covered orange peels and liquifiied Granny Smith apples. The strongest aspect by far was the sourness, except at the end when it morphed into a sweet finish. Pleasant and great to drink as it is not your typical barrel aged beer. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 1/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Apr 22, 2006 Oak, vanilla, alcohol, plums, figs, leafy tobacco and some nutty maly malt character that is sadly completely overshadowed by the barrel. Hazy brown body is topped by a low white head that diminishes completely. Borbon is strong in the flavour along with some vanilla but malt and yeast character is completely overwhelmed. Medium body with fair carbonation is somewhat thin and astringent. Barrel aging has flattened out both the flavour and palate of this one. Bottle sampled with MartinT, Olivier_MTL, Rastacouere and Siroy. fatty (363), Perkiomenville, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 9, 2006 12 oz bottle. Small bubbled head sits atop ciderish body. Aroma is woody and tart with bourbon and funky cheese notes. Taste is tart of sour apples. The bourbon is very smooth and blends nicely. Something about the tartness I’m not feeling but if you like funky, bourbon, this is for you. tjthresh (1774), Greenfield, Indiana, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 7, 2006 Updated: Jan 12, 2009Pours excellant copper brown color. I get a lot of oak with some pleasant lactic twang. Lots of nice wood and fruit and a completly drying finish. Much better than the original rating.
Pours coppery on the side of red with lots of carbonation, but little in the way of head. Completly controled by the barrel. I remember the regulat version being very fruity. The aroma is mostly oaky with some vanilla bourbon background. The bourbon character even burns the nostrils a bit. The flavor is overwhelmingly bourbon. Complete with the long burn. The palate is medium thin, but bubbley, lively. This is a hard beer to drink, but I will work through. 18 months was probably too long in the barrel. Thanks to BBB63 for the hook up.
