Commercial Description:
La Roja is brewed in the Flanders tradition. We blend this beer from oak barrels where the beer has been aging for 12 months or longer. We’ve added 10 lbs. of cherries and let this beer mature for additional time in the firkin. Truly an ale of grace and distinction. La Roja is a beer that we offer year round. Roja du Kriek is a beer that we made special for you at the Great Taste of the Midwest. Mahalo Plenty.

(Draught) Pours a hazy reddish-brown with a medium sized bubbly off-white head. Aroma of cherry, wood, caramel, almond, and some wood notes. Flavor of cherry, some funkiness, grass/herbal, and earth with a dry woody finish.

Draft sample at MBGF Summer08. Pours a cloudy reddish copper color with an average frothy white head that mostly diminished with fair lacing. Good tart cherry and woody aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Medium to heavy tart cherry flavor with a good solid sweet & sour finish of moderate to long duration. Another very interesting beer from this brewer.

MiBGF 07: Muddy ruby brown with a minimal head. The aroma has notes of both fresh cherries and aged fruit, Belgian yeast funk, wood and some pale malt vapours. The taste starts with a nice fruity twang with a counter balance of Belgian sweetness. An undertone of wood and light pepper run throughout. The mouth feel is refreshing and warming, hit the spot without being overpowering. This is really nice and I could dig a few bottle in the future...Ron?

On tap at GTMW. Poured pink-tinted peach with a loose-bubbled cap of off-white head. The aroma picked up sour, lightly-toasted cherries, oak, and vanilla over some redder fruits.. spicy touch of farmhouse character on the back.. this worked well. The flavor found dry, scratchy oak and cherry sourness throughout with some pale malt support.. vanilla sweetness surrounded. Almost no carbonation on the palate, leaving a bit of a fruit juice feel.. overall sourness was moderate.. solid brew overall.

On tap: The aroma consists of sour cherries, vinuous notes, oak, hints of vinegar, and very faint sweet cherries. It’s a cloudy orangish-red with a small off-white head. The flavor starts with some light sweet cherries, yeast, and faint caramel. The finish turns to moderately sour cherries, oak, hints of wine, and faint alcohol. Medium bodies with minimal carbonation.

#1 on my to try list at GTMW09. Very light body feel. The cherry dominated the flavor, but the sour and oak were REALLY faint.

Muddy collored reddish pour whispy soapy head. Lightly sour aroma lots of tart cherries coming through here as well added a nice sweetness. Avg Pal. Flavor is nicely tart some earthy leathery notes are offset by the subtely sweet cherry finish. I really liked this.
