502Flavors (220), Kentucky, USA Jul 9, 2008 750 into sniffer: "Blend #8, 2007." First thing first: I don’t know whether this was because of how JP bottles this batch, how Whole Foods stored it, or how I stored it, but when I opened this it exploded with foam and the foam literally kept pillowing out uncontrollably untill one third of the bottle had "blown off." This pissed me off very much. Anyways... on to the rating. Dark brown pour with reddish tint and a big white head. Doesn’t smell like much: notes of sour vinegar and some funky citrus deep down. The flavor is soft and subtle: sour vinegar with strange tangyness on the finish that is quite pleasant. I;m still new to sours and don;t really know how to explain whats going on with their flavors. However, I can explain that the flavor seemed to come on a bit late. It doesn’t linger too long either. The flavor is strange, but soft and unoffensive with no alcohol flavor. This brew is medium bodied and pretty smooth on the palate with a light tingly carbonation presence. Overall: this beer and its style are definitely unique and worth a try to anyone who wants a rounded and true beer experience.
Bhops (195), Dallas, Texas, USA Aug 29, 2008 Bottle... poured amber with thick head. Aroma of sourness with a hint of sweetness. Flavor is thin, with sour fruits and acid. Very good beer, and thoroughly enjoyable. gbdub (30), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Aug 29, 2008 Bottle labeled Blend 7, 2008. Extremely fizzy, bubbled out the bottle when opened despite having sat untouched on a counter for an hour. Pours a very cloudy deep red amber with thick off white head. A beautiful beer in the glass. Sweet and sour fruit and malty caramel nose. Mouthfeel is so-so, a bit thin and with more carbonation tingle than I like. Flavor is full of sour fruit, ending in a rich caramel and a woody, almost roast flavor. Somehow balances very nicely - I often have mixed feelings on sour/fruity brews, but this I like. 37steel (186), St. Charles, Illinois, USA Aug 28, 2008 750ml bottle. Dark amber with a huge off-white head. Cloudy. Highly carbonated. Spicy fruity aromas. Strong brett flavors, very earthy. jeffwilliams11 (253), hooterville, Michigan, USA Aug 24, 2008 i usually am not a fan of sour beers, but i was given a glass of this as part of a class on brettnomyces. pours cloudy amber with decent white head. aroma is mild apple, some spice, acidic. flavor is complex, spicy, cidery, very acidic. very tasty and easy drinking. moelikebeer (122), New Brighton, Minnesota, USA Aug 22, 2008 Bottle.
