750ml. Bottle $7.49 Binny’s Orland Luciernaga poured a hazed over orange into my tulip glass. There are many tiny carbonation bubbles rising from everywhere. A 3 finger white microbubbled head appeared on the pour that faded to a 2 finger rockiness. Leaves chunk lacing after each drink. Smell is dominated by spices but they are in no way overwhelming. I’m picking up clove and cardamom that are really nicely balanced. There is that summer field weediness and barn muskiness that are common in saisons. Very refreshing. There’s is much more malt in the flavor and the spices are more subdued. Nice malty sweetness with a twang on the finish. It’s all together spicy and herbal. Very nice. Saison like with a slight sourness and a little more malt backbone. Mouthfeel is light and lively. Dancing on the tongue. Finishes crisp and dry. Drinkability is very good. The spices are in no way overpowering. Dry and leaving me wanting more. The lower 6.5% ABV will let you enjoy more than one glass easily. The Firefly is an extremely goodbeer from Jolly Pumpkin. Definately worth a try if you see it. A nice little twist on a good saison. 1/21/07

(Rating #1037)

this one was a bit of a gusher. slightly hazy orange/amber with a great fluffy white head that lasts forever. great lacing that sticks to the glass long after the beer is gone. orange coriander aroma with notes of fresh baked bread with light caramelization. nice balance of sweet tart and bitter flavors.sweet/tart orange apple coriander are in the forefront light caramel and bread notes with bitter spicy underling hops rounding out the flavor. sweet tart bitter dry finish. orange coriander apple. lively carbonation. some slightly herbal notes throughout....what i cant quite put my finger on.... medium body. nice. interesting. very reminiscent of orval....but there is something i like about this one a bit more.

750ml bottle, courtesy of jimbowood (big thanks!), pours a murky dark golden with a large pillowy persistent head and great lacing. Aroma of coriander and a lot of general spices. There’s a lot going on in the aroma and it’s very pleasant and familiar but I can’t quite place everything there. Flavor is a bit sweet and a bit hoppy, and works very well. Notes of orange, apple, a some yeastiness. Palate is light, lively, with a dry finish; very enjoyable. This is not what I was expecting, but was pleasantly surprised.

Crap this one gysered on me as the bottle was shaken slightly and the opener I used put a hole in the top which caused the eruption. What a mess. Nice yeast and spice aroma. Taste was a little off for me, perhaps from the foam. Still not a bad beer.

Bottle, opened cold and still a gusher!! Pours a cloudy amber with a lasty foamy head. Aroma is spicy, with hints of hops, citrus, bread, wild bacteria, and alcohol. Flavor is tart and moderately acidic, but finish tight and dry. The light hoppy bitterness is present, but doesn’t overwhelm. Overall, its a fine brew, but I prefer some of their other offerings.

Bottle from MartinT. Aroma is a saison, if you let it sit for a while it turns into carrot cake. Taste is seriously spicye, carrot and corriander soup, really exciting beer.

Bottle picked up by my pops in MIchigan. Thanks Dad! Pours a deep orange with a sudsy, pillowy white head similar to Orval. Nose is filled with funky bretty grain and yeast, coriander/citrus, oak, and very, very mild spicey hops. When served cold, mouthfeel is very sharp and acidic, but this mellows out as the beer warms up a bit. Spicey hops are easily detected. Nice malt backbone to balance sustained sourness. Dirty socks come full frontal in the palate. Turned a little watery towards the end and lost some of the bretty touches that are so apparent in the nose. This is still a very nice brew, but I think I enjoyed the grand reserve a little more.
