Smell; very floral, with some grape and pear aromas. There’s a bit of an oak smell, along with a bit of coriander and other spices.
Taste; fruity at first with pears, white grapes and some mild ctiric notes. There’s a decent sweet maltiness with just a little bit of a balancing bitterness, followed by a slight grassiness in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a a good amount of carbonation.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 13, 2007 Courtesy boboski. Poured a hazy dark copper color with a moderately thick white head. Looks effervescent. Aroma is lemons, black pepper, a floral yeastiness, a bit of tart funkiness. Palate is medium to thick and the brew is well-carbonated. The carbonation plays around on the palate bringing out the sweet lemon/orange flavors. The tart and funky flavors are more apparent in the finish, and sweeter notes appear as it warms a bit. An excellent, unique brew. adrian910ss (1435), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 8, 2007 Large billowy white head atop of light hazy wheat colored body. Coriander, fresh hops and wild yeast in the nose. Flavor is remarkable - bright sweet and spicy up front, grassy and moderately bitter in the finish. All around a wonderfully creative beer, though I’m not convinced that the hops add much to an already great Belgian ale. hopslovin (181), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jan 5, 2007 Updated: Nov 1, 2007The pour reveals a cloudy copper color with a thick pillow of white froth that leaves nice lacing on the glass. As I put my big nose over the Oerbier glass filled with JollyPumpkin goodness the first thing that comes to mind is peppery yeast, then I notice an interesting array of spices, brett with tart fruits and a delicate cheese lacticness (I think I just invented a word!). The flavor is very complex but also has a lot of harmony, every elements seem to blend with the others, the wood, the peppery yeast, fruits, brett and spices unite to make me feel happy and then some, I notice in the end a sour and dry feeling. After a superb aroma and flavor, what about the palate ? It has a nice medium thickness with a vinous texture and gentle carbonation. This is an amazing belgian ale, thank you Jolly Pumpkin. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 2, 2007 750 ml bottle from Sam’s in Chicago. Amber colour with a mostly lasting frothy and rocky tan head. Lots of coriander aroma, somewhat candyish with some passion fruit and woody notes. Sweet orange rind flavour, building to a gentle tartness, lightly woody and dry, finishing lightly bitter and tart. Medium bodied, smooth, creamy, and satisfying mouthfeel. If anything, suffers from an identity crisis - witbier, flemish sour, hoppy pale ale, and straight-up Belgian all rolled into one - but works very well for my taste buds. The nice hint of sour at the end lends to a fruity concoction that will satisfy in the winter as well as a hot summer day. Very unique and delicious.
