5/31/2008: Luciernaga (The Firefly) pours a hazy caramel color with a large, dense and creamy beige-colored head. There is a generous amount of carbonation that helps sustain the rocky head and puffy lacing from the pour to the last drop. The aroma contains citrus (orange and lemon) and delicate spice. It is very inviting. The flavor is malty and fruity (hint of bubblegum too) at first and then the spiciness (nutmeg and corriander) and some dryness hits in the mid-palate along with a touch of tartness. The finish is smooth and slightly bitter and has some floral hoppiness followed by a touch of grassy citrus (like faint lemongrass or something). This beer is really well-balanced and quite refreshing. It is dry, yet efferevescent on the palate with medium body and a smooth mouthfeel. This beer is quite complex and very enjoyable!

Pompey (32), Longmont, Colorado, USA Oct 6, 2008 Lovely orange coppery pour with tinted head. Nice citrus and wood aroma. Taste starts boldly with a big blast of citrus, grass, and funk. The finish is however austere -- too dry for my likes -- with citrus (grapefruit) musty socks and a touch of phenol. Very reminiscent of Orval, which I love. Maybe I am being too harsh in trying to make this comparison, as it is just not there. Needs more body. Still, a good try. Caged bottle. pantanap (793), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 1, 2008 750ml bottle (didn’t write down the batch number) from WLV.... medium yellow orange pourwith a substantial slightly off-white head..... aroma of lightly spiced tart citrus fruit. a little musty..... flavors of citrus (lemons mostly with some orange) paired well with light spices. not overly tart but had enough to quench the craving. earthy and dry finish. good carbonation and semi-lively mouthfeel....pretty darn close to a 4 for me MaltOMeal (321), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA Sep 20, 2008 750ml bottle. Pours a gusher! Look out! Color is orange with a huge, fluffy white head. Nose is of yeast, spices and funk. Taste is of apple, spices, herbs and grass. Mouthfeel is medium-to-thin, tart and dry with super carbonation. Very drinkable. polished this one off myself. travita (762), Lewisville, Texas, USA Sep 3, 2008 Off amber couldy look with an everlasting thick foamy beige colored head. Good lacing. Smell is spices, cooriandor, tartness, and fruit. Taste is a touch of bitterness, some spices, and tartness. Good beer. Immy (1583), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Aug 28, 2008 Capped 750. I’m not sure of the vintage, but I know I have been cellaring this for about 2 years. I had reason to celebrate a little tonight, so I figured why not break this baby out? I was not disappointed... lightly hazed orange amber with a massive off white head that descended rockily. Thick, sticky lace. Orange scents, light tropical fruit and just a bit of barnyardy. Traces of dust and cinnamon. Rather light bodied, orange zest and spicy coriander, rather dry and herbal. Some woodiness emerges as it warms and breathes, some white peppery notes. Dry, mildly bitter herbal finish. Thanks, JP - and here’s to me and my new position!
