Aroma is yeast, lemon zest, grapefriut, spice, oak, bourbon. Flavor is yeast, lemon, coriander, grapefruit, oak, bourbon. Palate is light to medium, low carbonation, tart, dry finish. Great, but I like the regular better. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA

Pours out an orange color with everything the same as the regular version. Smell is a little dominated by the oak barrel. Some sour notes, with a little bit of citurs. Taste is sweet and some sour flavors along with some vanilla characteristics of the barrel. Not bad, but I may prefer the regular version more. This one was kind of light on the carbonation. Fairly straightforward sour pineapple and lechee Brett character, with a little edge of Nyquil Red alcohol aroma and a faint wisp of fading windy blended wildflower floralness. Clearish even orange pour, with a tiny rim of off-white. Very low on the carbonation. Flavor is a delicate, sweet perfumy wild sourness, with hazy oak and fermenting on the vine cranberries. Residual sweetness has some umami character and pair well with sour green apple skins. Nice tart, dry, leather oak alcohols. Hops appear in the background, lost in a sea of overly dominate Brett and oak. Barrel may bring wisps of vanilla. Some juicy hop juice and light wildness in the smack. Leathery. I think Brett has gone a little far here and this doesn’t appear as too complex. 7/3/8/3/16=3.7
12oz Bottle with a gold neck label with black print, ’’’’Grand Reserve Oak Aged 21 monhts.’’’’ Flickr(http://www.flickr.com/photos/26049401@N0 A rather intense billowy and perfumed apple caramel nose fills the nostrils, with a touch of cotton candy, some sweet pear nectar and all the glorious Jolly Pumpkin wildness. A touch of acetic and maybe some acetone, but nothing overwhelming. Delicate. Pours a heavily clouded orange-gold, with a nice rim in white. Flavor is intially bitter, suprisingly bitter. Gives way to some really light tropical fruits. A nip of banana flesh, hemp, and toast. A touch searing. Complex, sour, dry and still bitter. There’s some strongly residual hoppiness here. Some coconut nestles in amongst green apple and raw pineapple core. Hmm. There’s so much wonderful delicate fruit and spice, but I’m a little detracted by some oak-like bitterness mid-palate that doesn’t want to go away. Otherwise, very good. I like the bug progression here. It adds complexity, but hasn’t gotten overwhelming. At the very least, this is a beautifully delicate JP brew with lots to enjoy. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 31, 2006 Updated: Dec 4, 2006From a 12oz Bottle. Hazy, golden amber pour with shades of blood oranges and a thin layer of bubbly off-white head. Musty, dusty aromas of granny smith apple skins, dried lavender petals, light bretts, musty horseblanket, and a dry oakiness creates an intruiging bouquet. Light bodied, lightly carbonated mouthfeel with a pleasant, dry finish. The flavors are very funky and wild, heavy on the wood, and brimming with dusty flavors of aged garocha, melon rind, and various other spicy herbal characters. The bretts have really take over this one and have clouded over some of the more subtle characters that are trying to peek through. Oaky, funky, and sour finish with some hard goat cheese in the final smack. JohnC (2275), Mission Viejo, California, USA

Opaque amber color, foamy white head, the aroma is oaky, musty, funky. The flavor is initially sour but finishes cleanly.
It’s sour, but not too sour and has the Belgian candy sugar taste that I like. Nice brew jsquire (2107), St. Marys, Ohio, USA

I swear I smelled dill in this beer, along with the wood. I got the impression of sauer kraut balls when I drank this. Light breading, tangy funk, dill pickle, with some white wine and oak wood. I have no idea where the pickle came from, but it actually worked for me. aobecksy (661), Middle of no where, Ohio, USA
