12oz bottle. Tart and slightly sour yeasty aroma. Cherry skin, brett, dried oak, tart apple skin. Very nice. Pours a nearly lifeless looking hazed copper with a very thin white head. Flavor is quite heavily influenced by tart and slightly musty and sour yeast. Bourbon barrel? Hardly. Green apples, brett, lemon rind, wood tannin a touch of spice. Simple, but well constructed and the barrel aging, although does not add a lot of bourbon flavors, adds a nice aged characteristic. Medium bodied. Silky smooth with a disappointingly short and abrupt finish. Overall very nice stuff. Thanks Steve!

Bottle@SpontaneousWeekend08. Sweet, malty and apricot aroma. Yellow/amber color, beige head, good lace. Sweet, bitter, especially bitter in the finish, fruity, earthy. Wood dry and a little thinnish.

Pours a dark gold in color with a nice frothy one inch head. For being barrel aged for months, this is still bringing that JP funk. There is a lot of carbonation in this drink as well. Some subtle oak, vanilla and bourbon from the barrels is present in the taste. Another solid offering from JP.

bottle from a trade long long ago..... pours a medium reddish orange brown with a quick to fadt soapy white head.... aroma soar tart fruit and an apparent brett presence. softer notes of wood and oak..... flavors keep it pretty smooth and highly drinkable. soft tart and citrusy along with some sweeter vanilla andmalt notes. oak accents also add to the enjoyability of this brew. carbonation level was a little on the low end but worked well with it. mouthfeel was soft and smooth. i don’t get that much of the bourbon aging at all where as in the roja reserve, it was very much in the forefront.

Thanks to Dickinsonbeer for sharing this rare offering! Hazy orange in color with a medium off white head. Aroma is pretty funky with alot of brett, lemon zest, musty yeast with moderate phenolics, oak. Taste is really nice with a good brett presence- lemon zest, light grapefruit, coriander, oak and a touch of vanilla and bourbon. Light honey sweetness underneath the tart bretty character. Dry finish. Excellent.

Thanks to northerbrews for the bottle. Hazy orange color with very small head and lots of fizzy bubbles. Aroma of funky brett, apples, lemon zest, cinnamon, coriander and wood. The brett seems a little more subdued than a lot of other JP’s I’ve had; you can taste more of the spices and wood. Medium body with a tangy-dry finish.

Bottle from Styles on 12/27/2007. I’m not sure if this is the regular or grand reserve. 12oz bottle listed as 6.5%. Square label, not the round pictured in either bottle. Says barrel aged and bottle conditioned on the bottle, so I’m assuming the barrel aging is the grand reserve. Cloudy amber color. When cold it has a quickly fading small bubble head. Wonderful aroma of some sour funk and citrus. A bit of corriander hiding in there. A smidgen of oak too. Can’t wait to taste it. Some oak when I taste it, some sour. I don’t get the bourbon notes, so it may not be the grand reserve. Kind of mild otherwise.8,3,7,3,15:3.6 Rerate from 750mL bottle at Another Santee Sampling. this time at toncatcher’s house. Courtesy Beerlando. Poured a coppery orange color with very little head to it. The aroma was of citrus fruits, a little sourness, the JP funk, and a touch of bourbon in there. This one smells really nice. The taste was of some sour citrus fruit with some oak, a touch of bourbon and some of that funky taste as well. Th fruits were mellowed out nicely by the bourbon leaving just a touch of tartness. You can tell this one had been aged for awhile with the bourbon and vanilla oak flavors that were blended in. This had a nice smooth mouthfeel with a nice tart finish from the funk. Really well done, and a pleasure to be able to try.
