| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 3, 2009 75cl bottle from Whole Foods (Tampa, FL). Pours a dark brown to black color with a massive three finger tan head that settles slowly with excellent lacing. Aroma is tart and malty with notes of ripe fresh fruit, chocolate, dark fruit, tobacco, molasses, some hints of sour fruit, coffee, wood and smoke. Flavor is also tart and malty with notes of sour fruit, ripe dark fruit, chocolate, coffee, wood, anise, molasses, some hints of caramel, honey and wood. Generally medium to full body with a sour and malty finish. I think the description by StFun of a sour stout is accurate. Interesting and different but . . . . . snakeoilpete (324), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Feb 2, 2009 Bottle. Pours black with creamy tan head. Roasty coffee aroma with a little sour oak. Very dry- lots of coffee and wood with no syrupy sweetness. The mouthfeel is nice and thick, and the oak really comes through in a long, bitter, (slightly) sour finish. StFun (535), Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 19, 2009 Nice and different, essentially a sour stout. Pours a deep black with a gigantic tan and frothy head. Aroma is sour tart, dark fruit, tobacco, and wood. Flavor is nice and sour on the front, with roasted grains, vanilla wood, figs, and burnt coffee on the back end. Slight bit of funk and tobacco as well. Sour flavor is sharp and bitter, touches of cheese-funk and bakers chocolate. Mouth feel is excellent, frothy and creamy, thick and rich. Overall a nice brew.
