| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 16, 2008 Pours jet black with a huge, cascading brown head. Rich aroma of burnt coffee, chocolate, bourbon, leather, and sour yeast. Once this warmed, it was very good. Tons of roasted malt, with coffee, chocolate, currants, smoke, and oak. I could have done without the sour yeast. It drowns out whatever hop bittenress they intended. It doesn’t ruin the beer (like Avery 15) but it also doesn’t make it better. All in all, this is still a very good stout. Juelze (912), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 14, 2008 Thanks for sharing bro! Pours a black color with huge brown pillowy head. This head on this bad boy puts Duvel to shame...sorta. Anyway, as per usual, Jolly Pumpkin’s barrel aging is very subtle. This isn’t a Kentucky Breakfast Stout barrel treatment, but just very nuanced so that it brings a little bit of everything to the table. The aroma and taste are built upon notes of smoke, toasted wood, milk chocolate, burnt chocolate and mild caramel. Also, the JP funky yeast strain makes it’s way into the aroma and flavor of this beer. All and all, it’s pretty good. Not a style that I’m a huge fan of, but one I’m lucky enough to be able to enjoy. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 13, 2008 The pour was basically black with a beautiful, creamy light tan head that was persistent and offered up bits of lacing. The initial aroma was nice. I got roasted malt, light chocolate and even some hoppiness alongside the expected funk. The flavor was tart fruit, chocolate, roasted malt and sour funk. As the beer opened up and took on more and more oxygen the funk took over. I thought maybe I had found a JP beer that had found the balance between the flavor of the style and their signature funk, but alas the funk won. joekinty (263), rockledge, Florida, USA

Aroma is chocolate, light vanilla, Belgian yeast, licorice, caramel, some roast. Medium to full bodied, somewhat acidic. Interesting take on a foreign stout. jcwattsrugger (5567), Florida and, New Jersey, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 1, 2008 Pours jet black with a massive (of course) mocha brown head (which incidentally just kept coming, most likely due to not chilling the bottle sufficiently). Typical funky gueuze-like JP nose, only this time wrapped in a bitter espresso note, along with exotic perfumes and wooden, herbal characters. Quite bitter on the palate, again with that JP funkiness but also with typical roasted stout qualties, really not sweet enough considering the ungainly predominant stylistic choices. Fluffy palate although perhaps a little thin overall, finishing only somewhat medicinal considering the initial wave. An interesting stout, but JP’s modus operandi doesn’t really fit the style in my opinion.
