| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 17, 2008 Batch 265. Standard tart Jolly Pumpkin aroma. Pours a pitch black with a huge tan head. The head is about four times as large as the amount of liquid poured into the tulip. Flavor has the tartness of all Jolly Pumpkin brews, but with some underlying chocolate and roasted notes. A bit thin on the palate for a stout, at least in my opinion. This is something to try if you like the other Jolly Pumpkin beers. golubj (1289), Sunnyvale, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 12, 2008 Bottle. Dark brown pour, with lots of beige head. Aroma is lemony tartness, light wood, and some roast. The flavor is the same, uncomplex and the underlying porter didn’t seem to contribute any nice flavors. Maria (6286), Thisted, Denmark
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | May 6, 2008 Courtesy of After4ever/Tom. It’s a pitch black stout with a dense, creamy head. The aroma is sour with Brett? notes. The flavour is sour with notes of bitter, roasted malt, tartness, licorice, light rubber and a dry citrus ending rather tart. This is not a stout for me. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 23, 2008 750 ml bottle from Bevmo. Now we are talking. This is a yummy stout by JP. Such a beautiful pour. Pitch Black with huge brown head. Aromas of tart fruits and roasted malts. The roasted malts gave way to burnt malts on the flavor which added to the bitterness along with the hops. Tart funky flavors came through before the bitter finish. Aftertaste of more sour funk make this really interesting. I like it! inkubus27 (251), Highland, Indiana, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 21, 2008 Nice effort on this one, but I didn’t care for this at all. You can taste the dark malts wanting to come through in this, but it feels like the yeast that was used is giving it a belgian wit style flavor. It’s way too light to be a stout...by my standards anyways. FlagstoneHill (211), Erie, Colorado, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 16, 2008 750ml bottle served in a Smokestack chalice. Aroma is roasty malt, cocoa, tannic oak, light sour cherries and light dark caramel. Nearly black with red tints and a three fingered khaki head. Initial taste is wood, roast, tart cherries followed by woodsy tannins and vanilla along with some fruitiness and a short lived tartness and roastiness. Is it good? yes. Would I like to drink it often? probably not. Reading the label, you get the feeling it might be harsh, with the roasted malt and bitter hops (which I don’t really get) combined with the fact you know it is going to be highly carbonated and tart/sour since it is a JP beer, but it pulls it off rather well.
