Weird sour flavor that I was not expecting in a stout. I guess I should have expected this with a JP beer. Still a smooth brew that makes the funkiness work. GRM (1280), Aylmer, Quebec, Canada

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Oct 28, 2007 25.4 oz bottle. Dark brown with an active crema head. Light lace. Nose is very yeasty and floral slowly revealing roasted coffee and molasses. A touch of chocolate rounds things out. The taste also displays an odd but intriguing merger of Belgian sour and stout. Mocha limeade, dark chocolate, lingering dry coffee. Medium body, light carb. As always, edgy stuff from JP. jarspag (600), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 27, 2007 Surprise surprise! A flemish like stout? This was not what I was expecting. With this being my first Jolly Pumpkin brew, maybe I should have? They don’t advertise so, but I think brett? Either way, an interesting concoction....has a mild sour twang on the aroma and flavor profile. I think it adds a nice element to a beer trying to take a much different route. While I can’t say I completely agree with or love it - I still enjoyed it as much, if not more, than I was expecting to. WeeHeavySD (3040), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 25, 2007 750 that sat in my fridge for a damn long time, shared with Liz. Porus black with a thin light brown head. Nose is malty and sour. Taste is primarily sour with a malty sweet not really much of a stout at all. Its nice for what it is, if I close my eyes it amazing. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 14, 2007 Bottle shared at Cbus tasting number nine. Sorry. Not sure who shared it with me! Poured black. Smelled like roasted nuts and coffee. Taste was kind of chocolate, coffee, and bread, with some kind of strange flavor on the end. I think I enjoyed this one more then I was expecting. beerbuzzmontreal (2921), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 13, 2007 Sampled on tap at DDC. Pours a pitch black color with small brown highlights and a thin light brown head. Good aroma of chocolate and roasted malt with acidic notes. The flavor has a pleasant chocolate and roasted malt duo with acidic and fruity notes and a dry finish. The body is light to medium with a liquorous texture and soft carbonation. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 8, 2007 750 mL. Black with dark tan head. Aroma is an amalgam of roasted malt, nuttiness, lactose, and funk. The funk is mild for a JP brew. Mild tartness to start, the creamy palate distributes the roast/funk combonation nicely. The funk component is worked nicely into the stout style - any more tartness would be unwelcome.
