Porus black with a thin light brown head. Nose is malty and sour. Taste is primarily sour with a malty sweet not really much of a stout at all. Its nice for what it is, if I close my eyes it amazing. Poured black. Smelled like roasted nuts and coffee. Taste was kind of chocolate, coffee, and bread, with some kind of strange flavor on the end. I think I enjoyed this one more then I was expecting. beerbuzzmontreal (2931), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 13, 2007 Sampled on tap at DDC. Pours a pitch black color with small brown highlights and a thin light brown head. Good aroma of chocolate and roasted malt with acidic notes. The flavor has a pleasant chocolate and roasted malt duo with acidic and fruity notes and a dry finish. The body is light to medium with a liquorous texture and soft carbonation. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 8, 2007 750 mL. Black with dark tan head. Aroma is an amalgam of roasted malt, nuttiness, lactose, and funk. The funk is mild for a JP brew. Mild tartness to start, the creamy palate distributes the roast/funk combonation nicely. The funk component is worked nicely into the stout style - any more tartness would be unwelcome. dmac (1503), Toms River, New Jersey, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Oct 5, 2007 750 ml botle shared at Glouglouburps rooftop tasting. Poured smoke black with a small light tan head that quickly faded. Interesting aroma of sour chocolate covered cherries and oak. Smooth medium palate with nice carbonation. Flavor of sour chocolate with slight oak, didn’t really care for this it’s like a chocolate stout gone sour. Aroma good, flavor bad. CharlesDarwin (1860), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 3, 2007 Aroma embodies most of the classical stoutdom, save for that old peculiar twinge of wildness, driving the beer into grand flourishes of musky scent, emboldened bourbon, ravishing Indian spices and elegant fruit texture. Delicate, blossoming and rich vanilla caramels. Pours a charred mahogany with silky, soapy lacing in latte. Flavor is intense. This beer is maybe a year old now and I think the wild animals have had more time. They abruptly wash me down with coconut skins, lemon peel, and Asian pear nectar, then this long glide into the now subtle stout feel, revealing a glossed chocolate, nibbled with lavender and cream. Coffee peaks up in a scaldingly black French roast, bit with all the bright fruits of the equatorial regions. Yet, mild mannered, soft and sweet. Dainty. The stout really doesn’t show down the glass, mostly another layer of distant flavor trying to climb through the puckering sourness. If at all, it shows strongest in the back end and smack, with palpable nuttiness, char, and barrel. Tasty. Thanks Sean! ThomasE (5178), Copenhagen, Denmark
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 2, 2007 Black colour with a large, but fast disappearing, light brown head. vague roasted aroma with fruity, light tart notes and hints of some sweetness. Light roasted flavor, again with this fruity tartness, highly carbonated. Tart fruity finish. marcus (1902), Sacramento, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 1, 2007 This black ale poured with a thin tan head. The flavor is malty and slightly sour with a carbonated mouthfeel and a chalky finish. I’ve never had a stout this sour, but I enjoyed the uniqueness of this beer.
