Nice earthytaste with a dry finish and there was bitter chocolate too. This was different to say the least, but enjoyable. i wonder if this would cellar well. i couldn’t believe how dark this was, hence the name i guess. Braudog (3766), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 4, 2009 Bottle, Batch 360/362. A pour of epic proportions, dark and mysterious with a gigantic head. The aroma is rich with dark fruity essence. But the flavor is even more intense -- thick with a sour character up front, but with a thick rich roast hiding in the background. Very different. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 31, 2009 I popped this bottle after hearing some bad news about a friend. It smelled chocolatey and roasty from the bottle. I let it breathe a minute or two and poured up. The pour came out brown and then black once the snifter was filled. The smell from the glass is funky and the roasty notes are subtle and hiding behind the funk. Whoa, the taste is funk, slight sourness and totally unlike any stout I have ever tasted! Lots of tartness, this is excellent and I swear Jolly Pumpkin is doing everything right with these beers especially the tiny bubbles in the mouthfeel. So what if it doesn’t “fit” the style, it is delicious! I can’t wait to get my hands on some bam noire. These are definitely finely crafted beers.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 15, 2009 75 cL bottle. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, light wooden, burned and mild cherry sourish fruity. Solid sourness, roasted malt, dark chocolate, mild smoked infection note and distinct fruity base flavour to this. Lingering smoked infection into the finish. Another distinct infection like sour beer, tasty but somewhat murky flavour profile. Ends sharp citric to acidic with a lingering chocolate malt flavour.
