Pours 3 cm of head, intricate webs of tan lacing, the color is black as a zombie’s soul. Nose is sour yeast, chocolate, and roasted malt. Very surprising tastes of sour yeast mixed with dark, rich, chocolatey stout malts. A sourness mixed with heavy stout qualities is a strange concept for some people, but I’ve learned to keep an open mind and to expect almost anything. Refreshingly balanced carbonation and full body. SO full of flavor, it hurts! love this beer. Cheers to Jolly Pumpkin... nicolascage (105), Copenhagen (Virum), Denmark

| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Jun 19, 2007 First pour of 750ml in a pint glass. Pours deep dark brown/black with dark tan, dense, lasting head and lace. Faint aroma of coffee, chocolate, yeast, chocolate chip cookies. Pause, to let it warm up a bit. Slight chocolately flavor is overwhelmed by sharp sour/tartness. Body is light to the point of almost being watery for an 8% beer. I just don’t think this type of sour aging fits all styles of beer. Jolly Pumpkin Gold is great; the white is ok; but this one I can’t see having again, with all the great stouts out there. joergen (8635), Frederiksberg, Denmark

Black coloured with a beige ehad.
Roasted and light acidic aroma of wood and brett.
Roasted and acidc flavour of vanilla, brett and liquorice.
Very carbonated.
Don’t like the combination of roastiness and acidity. Emil (6074), Copenhagen, Denmark

The aroma is roasted malt, acidic, chocolate and coffee, so is the taste, a bit to acid for my likings. Medium body with a acid finish. GeneralGao (3071), Iowa City, Iowa, USA

Aroma was of oak, roasty malt, black pepper, and a touch of red wine vinegar. Acidic on the tongue with roasty malt, sour dried fruits, and subdued red wine. Good beer. Black and opaque with a tall and very lively head - it keeps on coming.... Sourish aroma with some roasted malt. Medium body with an extreme carbonation - unpleasantly so - roasted and lightly burned malt accents and a very distinct acidity. The bitterness is modest. I usually really dig the Jolly Pumpkin beers for their lovely Brett edge, but it simply doesn’t work in this one. The Madrugada Obscura simply comes out as an infected Stout, which isn’t a very good experience. 160607 Grovlam (3825), Copenhagen, Denmark
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 17, 2007 Bottle. Huge creamy light brown head that mostly lasted. Good display of lacework. Color was pitch black. Average malty aroma with notes of chocolate, coffee and notes of roasted malt as well. Belgian yeast can be detected with some sour berries and sour milk like notes as well. Most properly from the Bret. Full bodied with a soft carbonation and very light alcoholic texture. Mix of moderated sweet and acidic flavor with some underlying bitterness. Average duration sour and sweet finish. Strange experience, not quit sure that I like the sour notes in a foreign stout. Still this was a very complex beer and a completely new experience for me.
