Woody roastiness and fruity yeastiness dominate the beer and do mix very well together. The flavours of roasted malts and barrel combine to create some kind of roasted birch taste. The beer is very woody. The beer is also very fruity with cherries, red grapes and such. The end result is a weird clash of styles between the woody roastiness and the fruity sourness. Gets a few originality bonus points but overall the Madrugada Obscura mix of flavours is like your lazy thirty-something cousin living in his parents baseman, it doesn’t work. Aromas of roasted malt, carmel, coffee, cocoa and oak. Palate was light bodied and crisp, turning smooth as the beer warms up. Flavors of roasted malt, carmel, vanilla, light coffee and some grape like fruittiness with a lightly tart lingering roasty finish. Miguel (1181), Saint-Ours, Quebec, Canada

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 29, 2007 Draft at Rich O’s. Pours a jet black with a thick tan head. This beer was so foamy, it took 4 glasses to pour into to settle down into 1. Awesome lacing. The smell is very complex. Coffee, chocolate, yeast, a bit of sweetness. The flavor is equally complex. A marriage of sweetness, sourness and roasted malt come together better than I could ever imagine. Initial tartness with a touch of sweet, and then a roasted malt finish. Very well put together brew. michael-pollack (2733), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 29, 2007 750ml Bottle: Aroma is on the sweet side. Smells of alcohol, chocolate, coffee, cream, vanilla, and Belgian yeast. Poured dark black with a large, dense, brown head that lasted throughout. Excellent lacing. Opaque. Tastes is medium sweet and sour but not bitter. Starts out very sweet and brety, but also a bit sour with grape and other sour fruity flavors. Mellows out with notes of cream and chocolate. Medium to full body. Slick texture. Lively carbonation. Short, sweet, chocolaty finish. k4df4l (154), DTown, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | May 29, 2007 Bottle - Pitch black pour with a generous and tightly carb’d tan head. Faint dusty yeasty aroma that is almost non-existent. Cold, the sour aspect of the flavor dominates but as the glass warms the other flavors come forward in this complex brew. Combinations of coca, fruits/berries and roasted notes mix with the sour tang that creates a very unique and enjoyable beer.
