Differant for a stout for sure... Lemon, grapefruit, roasty, a bit salty. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 19, 2007 Bottle from either Sean or Craig. Took one to the Carolina tasting. Pours out a brownish almost black color with a thick head on it. Smell is sweet and somewhat sour, almost like the smell of a milk stout. The taste is smooth and rich and it does have a sour quality. Not many hops, but the sourness is offset some by the sweet roasted character that comes through as the beer warms up a little more. Quality stuff, but I can see how people would be turned off of this beer. JohnC (2288), Mission Viejo, California, USA
| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 2/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Mar 18, 2007 I bought this bottle at Hi Time Cellars.
It pours dark brown/black with a fluffy white head. The flavor is tart, almost like a sour vinuous (maybe sour lactic?) and I really didn’t enjoy it. I was expecting a lot better. TURDFERGUSON (1608), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 18, 2007 Bottle at Carolina Crew get-togther. Thanks Ross, I think. Pours dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma is interesting--definite brett, some fresh cocoa, roasted malt. I like the funk, but not so much in my stouts. A nice idea and offering from JP, but not really my bag, baby. sliffy (2012), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 15, 2007 Bottle: Pours a dark brown to black, with a light tan head. Aroma, very roasty, burnt malts, some coffee. Flavor, total 180 from the aroma, the roasted/burnt notes are really subdued, and you get some fruits, and a nice sour funk to it. This stuff is fantastic. Ibrew2or3 (2833), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 7, 2007 Sampled at the O-Town throwdown. Pours dark with lasting brown head. The aroma is odd for the way it looks. It’s tart, sour and faint burnt malts. The flavor consists of tart and sour notes that out weigh the hints of sweet and burnt malts. Interesting taste. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Mar 6, 2007 750 ml Bottle from 2006, at least a year old. Pours black with a massive head that takes up 90% of my Pilsner glass. Nose is pure brett. Taste is sour brett yeast, then some coffee, some chocolate, some more brett. Aftertaste is mostly brett and some chocolate roastiness. Strange strange brew. Medium body, high carbonation. Think Russian River Temptation meets Speedway Stout....but not quite. So unique that everyone should try it at least once. They REALLY need to tone down the carbonation though, is so excesive it makes it hard to enjoy/taste what is likely a great beer. cewldre (268), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 5, 2007 Bottle: Was told this was a must try, so try i shall. This one pours a little lighter than the moonless night they claim it pours, but it’s still incredibly dark with a small brown head. I smell a bit of dark fruit, mostly sour in smellt. I notice some chocolate notes in the smell as well. Taste is pretty nice. The initial taste is again of a bit of sour, dark fruit. As the beer sits in the mouth for a bit, I noticed a slight chocolate taste followed by just a bit of a coffee flavor as well.
