Tap at Ashley’s. Poured black with almost no head. Aroma consisted of mainly of dark notes, coffee and chocolate with a surprisingly tart/sour undertone. The flavor is dark a well with a pretty well pronounced sour tart under tones. A really pleasant surprise. Enjoyed this one throughly.

Source:750 mL shared with Steamhead at Chucks.
Glass:Lion Tulip.
Appearance:Poured a deep brown color with a three finger, fluffy brown head.
Aroma:The aroma very much resembled a sour. Sour cherries and vinegar dominate, with only a hint of roasted malt peeking through.
Flavor:The flavor was more stout like that the aroma. Roasted malt and pure cacao dominate. A slightly sour finish peeks through.
Palate:Medium/full body with solid carbonation.
Overall:The body of work here is awesome. My initial reaction to this beer was WTF??!?? After sipping and sniffing for 10-15 minutes, I began to really dig this. The traditional JP carbonation level should be toned down here, as it takes away from the beer, but overall, an excellent offering.

Poured black/brown with a thin egg shell head. Nose was roasty with slight raisin and vinegar notes. Taste is not as sour as I had hoped. Front is full of roasted malt, followed by some dark fruit sweetness, finishes with slight acidity and astringency.

(Bottle) Pours black with a creamy light brown head. The aroma holds a nice blend of mild roasted/toasted stout notes and medium acidic sour ale tones. The malt brings chocolate, roasted grain, raisins, sweet liquorice, dark bread and light coffee. Typical, quite gentle Belgian-ish roast. Molasses, muscovado and light-burned brown sugar are notable. Notes of sour sherries, lemon, tart blue grapes, black berries, light barnyard/hours blanket, dust, earth, lactic acid, warm milk, light oak wood and whisper of hops. The nose is fantastic - the sour and roasted notes are in perfect harmony. The flavour is light to medium sweet, light bitter and medium acidic with vinous hints of chocolate, lemon, black berries, sour cherries, barnyard, earth, muscovado, light oak and light hops. The mouthfeel is round and a tart with a lively, champagne-like carbonation. Finish of chocolate, lemon and muscovado. Medium bodied.

This is my fifth offering from jolly pumpkin in about two weeks, and I think this is my personal favorite. It’s got all the right JP characteristics, but is also a proper stout, which is great. Had this on tap at Ashley’s in Ann Arbor. It poured a classic stout brown with no head. The aroma was slightly sour, but with some subtle classic stout notes. The flavor was really complex, with sour and roasty notes. Very interesting, but delicious brew. Cheers!

Pours a dark brown/black with a dark coffee huge head to begin with that diminishes after a few minutes. Bittersweet chocolate/mocha aroma and very very slight beefy (meatloaf?) undertones. Flavor: biter coffee flavor with same aftertaste.
