Hefty tan head dotted w/the dark spots of the sediment. Aroma matches a typical export stout - plenty of roasty-ness. Roasted malt persists throughout with a hint of sweet at the end. The carbonation is nearly perfect. Something’s missing; I can’t put my finger on it, but it’s keeping this brew from being ri-donk-ulous. Nevertheless, one of the best export stouts I’ve had. Just as good as, if not better than the Podge. SETANTA (581), Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 2, 2009 Another major gusher, lost half the bottle. What remained was a highly roasty and substantial Imperial Stout. Slight acrid sourness from dark malts but Belgian character was either subdued, or hidden by bigger flavors. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 1, 2009 Bottle pours black with monster pale head that laces and pillows. The aroma is roasted funk, wet leather, and sour chocolate. The flavor is leathery, damp, dank, sharp cheese, and some roasted character. The body is lively and medium rich. Overall, I love this. Great mix of dark malt, cocoa and funk. Slightly tart with some dark fruits lingering. HonkeyBra (1376), Lemont, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 25, 2009 Crushed this at dark lord day 09. Big black pour with a big tan head. Aroma of typical Jolly pumpkin funkiness with some chocolate. Interesting flavor of funk, chocolate and coffee. Smooth, slick mouthfeel. Been waiting on this one for a while, and while it was awesome, was still pretty crazy. robertjm (414), El Cerrito, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 24, 2009 Nice tall thick head. Tan in color. Ever so slight Belgian-like aroma. Rubbery taste with an aftertaste that reminds me of peanut butter. Perhaps that’s all from the roasted malts or dark candi sugar? Average body thickness. Lots of sediment in bottom of bottle. This one is just plane odd. Is it a stout trying to be something else, or vice versa? Have to try more sampling to really decided whether I really like it our not. robforbes (1110), Bremerton, Washington, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 20, 2009 pours black with a small khaki head that goes away quickly, and some lacing.
smell is of bakers chocolate, coffee, some roastiness, some fruit, and alcohol in the back.
taste is not like it smells, tart, dark fruits, some dark chocolate, and roasted malts, ends a little bitter and dry. Beerman6686 (1307), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 19, 2009 This poured a nice black color with a fairly dark tan head. Aroma was dark roastedness with hitns of sour fruits. Flavor was dark roasted malts with hints of coffee as well, with a fairly sour puckering finish. I like stouts, and I like sours, but the mix of the 2 is just a bit too strange for me.
