pured dark brown, red like an amber, thin layer of off-white head, apple-fruity-yeasty type aroma, taste nothing like it looks though…sour tasting albeit very refreshing....turned less sour as it warmed…haven’t had anything quite like it...quite drinkable after getiing past the initial sourness

This beer is awesome...and I am sad to see the ratings of JP beers have been declining. Pours nut brown with a big foamy earthy head. Aroma is spice and sour...funk and wood. Flavor is the similar...perfect sweet, sour, wood balance. Mouthfeel is perfect.

750ml bottle enjoyed over a two hour period. Pours a slightly red tinged dark brown, with a dense two finger head that settles very slowly to a thick cap, leaving behind a sticky sheets of lace. Smell; there’s a fairly strong barnyard funkiness going on here, with old hay and some touches of vinegar. I also smell plenty of sour apples and tart cherries, as well as sweet molasses and caramel. Taste; starts out with the sour apples and tart cherries, with a little bit of chocolate and cinnamon thrown on top. Molasses and caramel malts follow behind the fruits, and then the baryard funk starts really come out. There’s some old hay, horse blanket and vinegar in the finish. I thought the finish was a bit harsh at first, but it smoothed out a lot after I let this warm up a little. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, medium bodied with moderate carbonation, and suprisingly drinkable with all of the sour and tart flavors.

750 ml bottle into a Tulip glass. Picked up by Kirk in Ridgewood, NJ. Pours a gorgeous light and dark brown with a tanned head with excellent retention. The aroma has a sweet nutty malt around a spiced yeast aspect. A light cocoa powder smell is also detectable. The flavor brings an oaky cinnamon aspect at first moving side by side with the sweet nutty malt from the nose. There is also a very sour and estringent flavor mixed in with all these other aspects that carries throughout the brew. Dark fruits, such as plums and a bit of figs make up a quick body. An ever so slight roasted characteristic comes through near the finish with a hint of cocoa beans. A slight alcohol warming presence happens once the brew is actually down the throat. Quite the interesting brew. Has aspects of a spiced beer, a dubbel, a brown, and a tripel. Highly enjoyable and very complex. You can definitely tell they are using some very odd yeast strains. Another excellent conception from Jolly Pumpkin!
