Commercial Description:
A rich brown ale inspired by the enigmatic monastic brews of Belgium, and the mysterious mist shrouded jungles of the tropics. Brewed with real cacao, and spiced with cinnamon and sweet orange peel for a sensual delight. A brew to be sipped, savored, and enjoyed!

It tasted more like a sour ale to me, with some funkiness and spiced up with cinamon and chocolate. Very yeasty and lactic, great palate. Finishes a bit too sweet though with some woody overtones.

750 ml bottle - thanks to RCL for the trade; batch #347; clear light brown with huge light tan head; thick, eggy and foamy; fruity nose with slightly sharp aromas of of yeast, oak spice, chocolate and orange; soft texture with subtle flavor mix of roasty chocolate, orange, raw sugar, dark fruit; love the nose; not also perfect for my palate, but it seems JP does belgians unlike anyone else in the US

hazy amber, light brown head. Bottle was a real gusher, stopped foaming over when only 1/4’th beer was left in the bottle, so a quick pour is neccesary. mild sourish aroma dominates, some sweetness beneath probably from cocoa and spices. flavor is sourish, faint citrussy, sweet from cocoa and quite spicy. it’s a strange battle between sour and sweet, and the spices adds a third dimension. anyway, i only partially like the flavor but it’s quite interesting. starts quite sour, then comes the cocoa, then the spices, and then it ends orange peely bitter

This one poured a murky lighter brown color with a huge beige head, almost gushing actually. Aroma was some residual sweetness, funk, and sour notes. Flavor was very strange to my taste buds, a clashing mixture of tartness and nuttiness, mixed up with random spices. To me this is one of those beers where the sum of the parts is greater than the product as a whole.

750 shared with thelizard @ the Beer Engine. Pours a dark amber, smell and flavor seem very similar to a lambic (light a bit tart) instead of a belgian strong. Great stuff.

25.4 oz bottle. Pours a dark transparent amber color with copious head. Very pleasant sweet aroma with hints of cinnamon, pumpkin, and malt. Taste is sweet with a little bitterness to balance it out. Maybe even a little sourness toward the end of the drink. Palate is full and fills the mouth with taste. Overall nice balance of sweet, spicy. and sour.

17th May 2008. Slight sour with an undertone of chocolate and coffee. Vague fruity notes and a little subtle spice in the very dry finish. Decent US Belgian!

Bottle, 75cl. Pours an unclear brownish beer with a big offwhite head. The aroma is spices with some acidity. The flavor is complex and spiced. The palate is very special, and the aftertaste changes over time. Overall this beer is strange and has some very odd flavors.
