Bottle. Pours hazy apricotish gold with floaters and an insane amount of white head that just keeps coming. Aroma is sour, tangy, funky, musty; bleu cheese, dried fruit, pepper, meat. Flavor is very peppery, meaty, some tangy fruits. It feels like little fireworks on my tongue, yet flavor lacks a certain amount of dimension.

2006 Bottle:Pours a sparkling light gold with a firm white cap. The nose smells a little bretty, with notes of hay, caramel and honey. Spritzy carbonation. The body is a bit sour, but balanced with lots of bready malt and barnyard funk. Good and drinkable at 8% ABV.

On Tap at Dieu Du Ciel! Nice golden color, loads of carbonation. Aroma is fruity, peppers, and some slight grasy notes. Flavour is again, quite peppery, and fruity, but the pepper wins out. There is a nice hoppy bitterness in there also. Well balanced beer. Mouthfeel is slightly thin though. This is very much like a Saison i find.

750 ml bottle. Pours a hazy dark golden yellow with a fizzy white head that quickly diminishes to a thin film that laces the glass.

The aroma is tart fruit, wood, and some pepper over a biscuity malt base.

The flavor is sweet and sugary malts and sour tart fruits followed by a dry finish with just enough grassy hop bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with sharp carbonation.

Overall, another interesting Jolly Pumpkin brew. I like the balance of this one. It’s fairly sour but has some sweetness and the slightly bitter finish to counteract.

750 mL bottle. Hazy honey yellow with fluffy white head. Sour aroma with barn yard notes. Bright and lively palate. Good strong sour taste with a pungent spicy bite transitioning to a really pleasant lingering oak taste and sweetness in the finish. This one has a really nice complexity and good balance.

Rated 9/30/06: Golden yellow with a mountainous head and impressive lacing. Light spicy aroma. Easy on the palate with a rich full finish. Layered flavor with lots of spices, fruits, and malts jumbled together. A nice one to sip on and simply enjoy the pleasure that is offered.

Pours a hazy light gold, with a medium white head. Nice spices and a slight sourness in the nose, backed by some orange citrus fruit. The taste was slightly sour, but nothing too big, really big orange flavor, with some nice yeasty JP funk that has become a welcomed treat these days. Nice mouthfeel, and the aftertaste coats the palate leaving you wanting more. Another kick ass brew from these guys.

750ml bottle. Pours a pale, cloudy yellow with an enormously large, compact white head that takes forever to go down. Thick, sudsy lace left down the whole glass. Aroma is amazing. Yeasty, Belgian, tart, sour, fruity, vanilla, complex. Taste is mild with a little peppery zing. Also tastes fairly Tripel-esque. The sourness of the aroma doesn’t really come through in the taste too much, unfortunately. This thing is insanely drinkable at 8%, but I wanted a bit more of that JP funk. It’s got a little bit of tartness but it’s fairly subdued. Whatever, this still rocks and Jolly Pumpkin is one of the most interesting breweries out there.
