A frothy, cream colored head settles slowly to film with a thick, foamy edge. Skinny arches and random spots of lace mark the glass. Aromas include dusty apples, caramel malts, loads of strong, virgin oak, and vanilla. Of course, what would the nose be without the signature Jolly Pumpkin brett funk, an element that this brew has plenty of. The flavor is quite sour, strikingly so in fact, with heaps of apple influence from the La Roja. Oak just oozes from this brew, almost to the point of being overbearing. Vanilla and caramel smooth things out a bit, calming some of the intense sourness, while the brett does its job in drying everything out with funky, farmhouse flavor. Medium bodied, bubbly, and crisp, the apple tartness and the oak linger for a good while after the finish. Another very good offering from JP, although I’m not convinced that it is significantly better than its primary contributor, the La Roja. sprinkle (114), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 5, 2009 Hazy deep gold in color. Slight head, but lingers. Rich nose of sour spice, oak, subdued nose but you can smell finesse if thats possible. Very balanced in the mouth between sour notes, malts and oak they mingle very nice. Bright grannysmith apple throught the mid palate. The finish is a little rough, the oak shows a little to much. GodOfThunder (877), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 18, 2008 Beerlando is now my best friend for sharing this. Great beer. Slight red wine smell with some lemons and the signature Jolly Pumpkin funk. Taste has a lot of La Roja influence with the sour funk leading the way and some slight spice in the background. There is a great balance in the flavors and the oak from the aging. lassem (308), Copenhagen, Denmark
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 14, 2008 Appears deep amber golden with practically no head what so ever. I scient something similar to lactose, some marcipan and hazelnuts and breadcrums. Besides that there is spirits and you clearly sense the wooden barrels. The taste is very sour and like the nose the taste is rather alcohol-dominated in heavy compatition with wooden tastes from the barrelaging. The palate is creamy with a sourness that makes your tounge play twister.. tytoanderso (1387), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 6, 2008 750ml bottle, thanks Jeremy! Pours a tepid orange/amber with a soapy white ring. Sour and really oaky on the nose, with a definite quality of fermenting apples. Oak and sourness abound in the mouth. Especially sour near the back, but really quite dry. More apples. Some residual sweetness and a tropical fruit presence like coconut creeps in on the finish. Very nice. Prickly sourness throughout, but not at all abrasive. This is probably the best Jolly Pumpkin beer Ive had. A really delicious treat, and Ill probably never have it again. Guerde (710), Welcome, Minnesota, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 19, 2008 (bottle shared by Stine, thanks Eben!) Pours hazy amber with no head. Typical sour ale aroma of nail polish, cherry skin, and oak, which is rather Rodenbach-esque. The flavor is lightly sweet, substantially oaky and peppery, with a hint of butter, and moderate sourness. The mouthfeel was medium, with a light sourness on the finish.
