Commercial Description:
The fourth in our Bam Farmhouse series, and perhaps our most adventurous; a traditional farmhouse style hefeweizen. Weizen Bam seamlessly blends traditional German style hefeweizen yeast with our own local wild and sour cultures, for a melange of the most flavorful sort. Ruddy golden, with yeast driven esters of banana, spicy clove, and nutmeg all wrapped up with a generous dose of good-natured rapscallion delight.

#11 Bottle. [Papsoe grand American tasting] Average fin bubbled white head that mostly diminished. Spare display of lacework. The glass that was served was from clear pale yellow to hazy orange milky. Aroma of mild fruit, hint of floral, mild sour notes and citrus. Light to medium bodied with an average carbonation and light dry texture. Moderated sweet and acidic flavor. Light fruity acidic finish. 5 / 2 / 5 / 2 / 10 = 2.4

750 ml bottle from Bieropholie, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.

App.: Bright yellow, hazy with a small, loose white head. Aroma: Bright and a bit funky, some green bitter herbs, a little Weizen in the form of some weak esters and wheatiness, lemony citrus, a bit of yeast, Palate: Medium body and fairly active but not too sharp effervescence. Flav.: Quite citrusy, acidic, funky, bright, a little yeast and wheat, none of the typical Weizen esters; kinda sour, a bit bitter with lingering minerals and tang.

Hmmm, this isn’t really working for me. Maybe my bottle has swung too much to the Farmhouse side, as the Weizen characteristics are almost absent. I’m a big JP fan, so I’ll grab another bottle.

Thanks ogglethorp. Hazy pale straw gold with a huge, open white head maintained by ongoing effervescence. Leaves broad tracks of lace on the glass. Tenacious sour farmhouse yeast aroma, somewhat citric. I don’t find any of the banana or clove normally produced by weissbier yeast. Flavor is primarily tart and citric. Some worty grains and brettish creaminess develop towards the finish. Medium body, spritzy, somewhat creamy lingering mouthfeel.

750ml bottle courtesy of Tayner, thanks a bunch. I have not seen this on the shelves in Colorado so I was happy to get this bottle. Nice cloudy yellow-white almost looks like a wit but more yellow. Tasty, funky and doesn;t remind me of a hefe. nice beer. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 09-20-2008 05:35:15
