Commercial Description:
JosephsBrau Hopfest is a German-style Pilsner featuring imported noble hops from Bavaria. Hallertau bittering hops provide a refined bouquet of spice tempered by mild floral Tettnang hops. The resulting brew offers a crisp counterbalance of robust bitter notes and a dry finish.

bottle-pours very pale yellow hue with a small sudsy white head. nose is musty with some of that german skunk nose. the old penny thing that sethdude uses is kind of appropriate here. it kind of does smell that way in a sense. i akin that nose to skunk though. flavors are skunky with a touch of diacytl and hallertau all over the finish-bitter and metallic. palate is soft with some prickly carbonation on the finish. long german drity yeast finish. really an ok pils, but nothing great for this style. I do like pils, but they have to be top-notch and this one is not.

Gold with a thick, fizzy white head. Aroma of slightly sour lagery malt and hops. Flavor is hoppy with an undercurrent of sweetness. Mild bitter hop finish. Meh. Ok.

A grainy corn aroma and a toasted grain flavor. Appearance is a clear yellow color. Would love a little more body but this is a drinkable beer nonetheless.

Bottle. Poured a large, rocky white head that didn’t want to fall away. Nice lacing. Clear, golden body. Light malt aroma with some hay and a fair amount of floral and herbal hops. Taste was about the same with some mild pear and honey flavors. The hops definitely play a prominent role in the flavor profile (without being too dominant/overpowering), which I appreciate. Light body with average/pleasant carbonation. Nice hop finish. Overall a nice German pils for the price, but the malt flavor could have been a bit cleaner for me...something about the pear and honey notes seemed off.

Bottle. Pretty good german pils, which was a little suprising honestly. Nice hallertau hops in the aroma and flavour. Light and refreshing brew.

Pale malt aroma with esters in the background. Pours a light golden color with a lime hue, minimal white head, and had some sediment. Bready grain malt taste with grapefruit/lime flavored hops and a butter background. Light/medium bodied, resinous, with lively carbonation. A drinkable bargain.

Bottle. Aroma is weak basement hops, some floral hops. Gold pour with a white head. Decent flavor and aftertaste. Not much of a hop bitterness though, like I like. Decent beer though.

Slightly grassy spicy german hops with a discernible rich malt note. Golden with a big foamy off-white head that laces the glass as it dissipates slowly. Mild up front with a crisp feel and a light malt body Finishes midly bitter and hangs on with a spicy note. Not bad, a bit watery and thin.

Well, adventures in low budget drinking continues with this offering from Trader Joe. Now I’ve had this before and I remembered it being pretty good, so maybe what I’m drinking right now is an old or damaged specimen, but Joe contracted, shipped, stored and sold it this way, so I’ve gotta rate what’s in the glass. And it stinks. Like old wet cardboard, something stale and musty. Can’t smell the hops. Can taste them, the beers got a nice bitter bite. Some bready malt, and a little floral/ light pine taste. And more of that old mustiness. With a little soapiness. Not sure what went wrong here, the beer some good flavor elements, but there mixed with that old nastiness. Nice enough looking, rich gold color, and a nice enough texture, and the finish is the best part of the flavor, a lingering hoppiness without the off flavors. Less than satisfactory.
