Pours a clear dark reddish brown with a large beige/tan head. Nose is toffee, hazenut, and a little sourness. Taste is very nutty, with a little spiciness, some woody hops. Some roasted grains come through in the finish as well. high carbonation. Medium body. A bit hoppier/roastier than i care for in this style. Definately an american take on a Dopplebock. iowaherkeye (1858), Los Angeles, California, USA

Pours a clear reddish brown and a one finger beige head with little retention. Aroma of grain, brown sugar, toasted malts and some caramel/toffee. Flavor is grain, cardboard, raisins, alcohol, and some caramel malts. Semidry finish. Moderate carbonation with a medium body. Average at best for a doppel. burpfrank (292), carpinteria, California, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 11, 2007 Nice deep brown pour with an amber hue. The head is tan and on the smaller side, but stays. Aroma is mostly roasted malts with just a hint of clove. The aroma is very pleasant. Flavor is true to the aroma, but alcohol flavor is very dominant. The finish is slow and syrupy. A about average for a doppelbock. Rynoplasty (536), Louisville, Kentucky, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 7, 2007 Pours brown with a slight red tint and has fairly small off-white head. Aroma is light but mainly of caramel malt. Taste is also mainly caramel malt. The mouthfeel is a little thin but really, this is a decent beer for the price. If I lived near a trader joes (this was brought to me by my moms boyfriend who works in Virginia) I might drink their beers quite often. NicerInPerson (337), North of Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Feb 6, 2007 The aroma was malty and nutty with a bit of a vegetal nature. Some dark fruits, raisins most notable, were present. Also caramel and a toasty note. The beer poured almost clear amber brown with a very slight off-white head which retreated quickly. The flavor was toasty and almost a bit roasty with a strong presence of malt but a vegetal undercurrent which really detracted from the flavor. The raisins in the aroma were present in the flavor but were overshadowed by the unbalanced character of the brew. The body was medium with a moderate level of carbonation. Not a well made dopplebock, skip it. 12 ounce bottle (92 cents). BrewDad (2370), Olympia, Washington, USA

A deep copper color with a nice head. This was a easy to drink Double bock. A very malty brew with some good off flavors with spices. A decent brew. porterhouse (1156), Alna, Maine, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 2, 2007 (Bottle (stamped 10/25/06) via trade with <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?UserID=3 target=blank>IrishBoy, thanks Richard!) Pretty nice...Pours clear medium-dark auburn-brown with a small biscuit head that recedes a bit to a thin cap that stays. Aroma is sweet and malty - honey and light burnt caramel. Mouthfeel is smooth and sticky, has a bit of prickly bite. Maybe a bit thin. Sloppy lacing. Has a nice sweet honey and roasty caramel flavor. Was getting a bit of soapiness here and there (hope it wasn’t my glass) but this is a nice "low-key" doppel.
