Poured dark brown with tan head that lasted a while and left good lacing Nose of roast malts and chocolate. Smooth mouthfeel. Flavors of chiocolate, nuts, and fruits. Brisk finish. Good for a Trader Joe’s contact brew. brianprentiss (475), Portland, Oregon, USA

Re-rate: I must have had a bad bottle the first time around. Still vegetabaly and sugary, but no metallic this time...its more like pork rinds. fuyajo (225), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 1, 2007 Dark brown, slightly foamy mouthfeel. Slightly bitter and roasty. Not overwhelmingly so, however. Slight sweetness and creamyness. Must not be served really cold or it tastes pretty bad. twindadplus2 (417), Wisconsin, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 1, 2007 Dark brown with a fizzy tan head. Aroma is roasted chocolate malt and a slight spiciness. Flavor of creamy, roasted malt, bittersweet chocolate and coffee with a lingering tanginess. Short, roasty finish coupled with a fairly light body leave this one a little lacking for a doppelbock but still decent enough. marcus (1878), Sacramento, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 31, 2006 This dark brown ale poured with a thin tan head. It tastes more like a brown ale than a doppelbock. There is a strong roasted malt flavor and a spicy candy finish, making this a fairly tasty brew. bochi23 (90), USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 29, 2006 bottle. pours a nice rich red mahogany. light aroma caramel & roasty chocolate. not a huge flavor but light and satisfying. I have not had many double bocks so I can’t say much about the authenticity of this one. decent. erway (1002), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Dec 29, 2006 Pours a deep auburn with a nicely beaded off-white head. Aroma is deep bready, cinnamon, caramelized sugar, and malt. The body is a bit thin for the style. The flavors are big and malty; chewy caramel, and some chocolate, with an appetizing hop spice. The finish is appropriate. I can’t get past the fairly light body esp. considering the purpose of this beer. Cliff (364), Avon Lake, Ohio, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 28, 2006 Bottle, poured a deep mahogany with a thin off white head. Not much aroma. Clean malty flavor, molasses, chocolate. Slight hint of bitterness. A little bit of alcohol warmth in the back of the throat. A fairly bland double bock.
