Aromas of chocolate, caramel, and light roast. Flavor is chocolate, caramel, roast, and some dark fruit. Palate is somewhat oily but seemed to lack body. Good warmth at the finish from the alcohol. Not a bad doppel especially at the price... Braudog (3773), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 15, 2006 A full and thick head sustains itself over this dark red beer. Very rich -- a hearty caramel malt with a slight alcohol kick. Much better than I’d anticipated, as snooty as that sounds! mcnally (114), Burbank, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 13, 2006 Aroma of roasted, chocolate, and caramel malts. Some transparency in the reddish brown pour. Small tan head. Pretty decent flavor of roast and dark fruit. Evident alcohol and sweetness. Good doppelbock with a surprising amount of roast. Only complaint I has was the lingering astringent aftertaste. But very cheap! Headbanger (1598), Aurora, Illinois, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 11, 2006 12oz bottle- An aroma of dark roasted malt on a dark amber body with a small off white head. Taste of malt with a very very faint sourness followed by a darker roasted flavor. Not bad but a little watery and faint in taste. Zymologist (30), Lakewood, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Dec 9, 2006 It’s snowing feet in Cleveland, but this beer has made it bearable. Seems to me like that lover one calls when one needs some warmth and affection, but won’t be calling you up on Tuesday demanding dinner. It’s a bit too sweet with an astringent aftertaste that’s like a piano chord where one string’s slightly sharp. There’s worst ways to celebrate winter. luvcasks (178), USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 9, 2006 Caramel, sugar and toasty malt aroma... with a clean lager like profile
Bright Mahogany to garnet pours with a decent tan head which subsides to a thin layer of bubbles
Flavor: Caramel, some roast and a little astringency from char with some slickness with nice bit of spicy hop bitterness in the end which seems to make the finish less enjoyable
Palte: Medium heavy body, with decent carbonation... the slickness seems to linger between sips
Overall: Lot of good characteristics of a doppel bock the char and slickness detract from enjoyability but a decent buy for the price. When compared seems similar to the GB winterbock but does not have the malt profile after4ever (2806), Brier, Washington, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 8, 2006 12-oz. Pours a deep opaque mahogany black with a thin off-white head that doesn’t hang around. Virtually laceless. No signs of carb visible. Bready, very slightly roast & toast nose. Some char and roast and a bit of caramel on the mid-palate. Slightly sour finish. Cheap, that’s for sure, and the bang for the buck is decent...but in the end you can tell you’d rather drink water for a couple days and spend a little more for better beer on the third day.
