I like this micro brewery tavern in Madison WI, and their sample tray of beer even if the quaility isn’t the greatest. Pale Ale wasn’t dry enough, a bit harsh on the finish, and not much aroma, head.

For an APA, this brew has no hops in the nose. Clear, light gold body with no bubbles and no head. Some diacetyl. Dry, with some bitterness. This has none of the primary qualities typical for an APA. Based upon other comments on this brew, I am thinking that perhaps the bartender switched the APA and the Pre-Prohibition style ale on my sampler tray. Of course, no way to be sure, so the APA takes the hit with my 1.7 rating.

On tap at the brewpub. Poured a hazy medium-golden with a light cap of white head. Nose was pleasant... lemongrass, caramel, and grapefruit primarily... with an odd hint of dishsoap. Lemony-caramel base to the flavor.. with grassy and grapefruity hops providing a solid level of bitterness. Smooth malty base with well-placed bitterness in the flavor department. Enjoyed this one.

Fresh, citrusy grapefruit aroma...very nice and floral. Pale, yellow-gold in color with a very thin head. Lots of minty hop flavors with a caramel/toffee malt backbone and a grassy finish that isn’t bitter but well balanced. The hop flavor is really strong for an APA.

This had more character than the IPA. This poured with a slightly cloudy dark gold colored body. The aroma was grapefruit, fowers and toffee. Classic Pale ale aroma. The taste had toffee, tea and hints of the grapefruit. The mouthfeel was thin and slick, but this just made it more drinkable. A very good beer.

Amber with a thin head. The taste was strong and hoppy with a watery, thin body It finished bitter but smoothly. Overall it was very similar to the IPA and so deserves the same score.

Slightly hazed golden colored liquid. Moderate white head. Pine and grapefruit with indertones of malt. Light caramel and lemon zest flavors. Hints of light fruit. Many would call this and IPA. Nice call!
