Smells just like being in a specialty grain malt house - very pleasant. Raw grain caramel flavors dominate. Appears to be some english malt and yeast influences. Quite smooth to the palate, but has some rougher edges that distract from the overall enjoyability. A fairly good ale. TheDean (785), MIlwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 9, 2001 I tasted the bottled version of this, which I believe is either brewed of bottled in Black River Falls, WI. Not much aroma to speak of, a little sweet. Very dark golden-brown, with a light head. Good flavor driven by a darker malt then I am used to in this type of beer. Again a little sweet flavor in there somewhere. Nice smooth finish. This is the beer my girlfriend drinks when she raids my fridge so I always keep it around. Not bad considering she’s an MGD fan. 4nolanz (18), South Carolina, USA

Not nearly as heavy as other reds so for those who arent into reds, its a good taste. Again, not the best red youll ever have, and nowhere near it, but you can do a whole lot worse. esjaygee (1600), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA

Taste of caramel, light nuts, sweet malts that finishes mildly bitter. Pjones6738 (500), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 27, 2003 This is JT Whitneys primary beer, and the only one they bottle. Its got the typical red color. Nice malty beer with some caramel taste to it. Tap and bottle are pretty similar tasting. badgerben (3610), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 4, 2004 Clear red color with no head. Malty and sweet aroma. Fairly dusty taste. It struck me as a more raw beer, not well rounded. Bitter. A decent standby.
