Brigadier (1220), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA Mar 4, 2006 On tap at JT Whitneys
When I snifed the sampler glass, the first thing that sprang to mind was velvet cake. The dark black body was covered by a thin marbled head. My first impression upon taking a sip was of expresso, creamer and chocolate. It was a little chewy but still a little too thin. Smooth, dry subtly sweet finish. Overall it was good - one that I might have again next year. malachi (62), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 3, 2006 I should first mention that I’m not a huge fan of J.T. Whitney’s, except when it’s my birthday. As hezron mentioned tonight, I must be more susceptible on my birthday. In any case, I certainly enjoyed this stout. It’s not terrible impressive compared to a Dark Lord, but then again, what is. Pretty good for a brewpub imperial. The aroma starts off with a nice, but subtle burnt raisin aroma. Then, the thin, chocolate body gives quickly away to the low-bitter coffee finish. I enjoyed the lasting finish experience with this "session" stout. Thanks to hezron and brigadier for joining me on my b-day. badgerben (3586), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Feb 21, 2005 Black color with a medium head. Burnt malt aroma, but a tad of a sour end. Dirty and burnt malt flavor with a generous helping roasted goodness. Slightly sour finish. Slight infection? Still, an okay stout. hezron (600), Viroqua, Wisconsin, USA Jan 13, 2005 Very little head, dark muddy brown in color. A hint of raisin and licorice aroma. Full body with a creamy texture. Initially sweet roasted coffee and leather taste which changed first to metallic then to bitter. (My first rating!) Pjones6738 (500), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Mar 8, 2003 Not much of a scent to it. A dark brown beer, with kind of a chocolately taste to it. More of a sweet stout than an imperial stout.
