Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Oct 13, 2008 On draught at the brewpub in Madison, Wisconsin. Pours an opaque dark brown stout with a creamy beige head that slowly dissipates, yet has great retention and lacing. Aroma of typical dry toasted dark malt, touch of coffee, dark chocolate and a hint of smoked wood. Taste is medium bodied, smooth, with flavors of toasted dark malt, some floral hops, coffee, a touch of dark chocolate and little wax. Finish has a toasted dark malt and coffee aftertaste and then brings forward a mild hop bitterness. GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Oct 4, 2008 Draft at the brewpub. Poured a clear dark brown color with orange light shining through. The head was light brown and left some lace behind on the glass. Smelled of subdued butterscotch and light roasted malt. Medium bodied and dry with minimal carbonation. understated flavors of chocolate and roasty malt. Not a bad stout. esjaygee (1467), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA Jul 19, 2008 On tap at the brewpub. Brown with thin tan head. Aroma of coffee and roasted malt plus something off I can’t describe. Taste of roasted malt, barley with a dry bitter finish that has light hop qualities to it. Creamy body was very thin and could use more character. CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Nov 18, 2007 On tap at the brewpub on 6/22/07: Pours a transparent dark mahogany with ruby hues and a dense, frothy, creamy tan head. Sweet dark caramel and roasted malty aroma is pretty true to style. Body starts fairly thin and lacking any particular finish until the finish where some bitter roasty malt shows up. Pretty bland for the style. Brigadier (1220), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA Oct 9, 2007 On tap at brewpub
This seemed to be the best option on a recent visit so I ordered one with lunch. I should have gone with the kristal weizen instead. It’s not awful but this has enough flaws that it was not enjoyable at all. I ended up leaving about a quarter of the pint untouched.
Aroma / Appearance - A tan half finger head lingered over a deep brown body. It was cold when it arrived so I give it some time to thaw before exploring the nose. Roasted malts, chocolate and a slight smokiness are available in reasonable quantity. Even for a dry stout I thought it was a little weak.
Flavor / Palate - Each sip flooded my mouth with bitterness and water beer. Earth, smoke, burnt bacon and overcooked beef create a slightly offputting flavor. It feels like something is missing. If the few flaws were fixed this would be a decent dry stout; instead it is average to slightly below average. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Sep 1, 2007 Date: 06/22/2007

StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jul 14, 2005 Barely translucent and deep mahogany in color with scarlet accents. Faded, thin, creamy tan head. Aroma is instant coffee, cocoa powder and roasted malts. Thin palate feel with roasted malts positioned for center stage. Light accents from chocolate shavings. Dry, powdery finish. JPDIPSO (4864), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Oct 31, 2004 Mohagany color with a dense beige head. Rich mocha aroma. Light oily feel that thins out as it warms.
