On tap at the brewpub on 6/22/07: Pours a transparent dark mahogany with ruby hues and a dense, frothy, creamy tan head. Sweet dark caramel and roasted malty aroma is pretty true to style. Body starts fairly thin and lacking any particular finish until the finish where some bitter roasty malt shows up. Pretty bland for the style.

Mohagany color with a dense beige head. Rich mocha aroma. Light oily feel that thins out as it warms. Roasty malt flavors with some light acidity. Long dry malt linger. Quite true to style.

On draught at the brewpub in Madison, Wisconsin. Pours an opaque dark brown stout with a creamy beige head that slowly dissipates, yet has great retention and lacing. Aroma of typical dry toasted dark malt, touch of coffee, dark chocolate and a hint of smoked wood. Taste is medium bodied, smooth, with flavors of toasted dark malt, some floral hops, coffee, a touch of dark chocolate and little wax. Finish has a toasted dark malt and coffee aftertaste and then brings forward a mild hop bitterness.

Black color with a medium tan head. Very roasted aroma. Heavy, burnt roast flavor, but kind of watery at the end. Some coffee.

Draft at the brewpub. Poured a clear dark brown color with orange light shining through. The head was light brown and left some lace behind on the glass. Smelled of subdued butterscotch and light roasted malt. Medium bodied and dry with minimal carbonation. understated flavors of chocolate and roasty malt. Not a bad stout.

Barely translucent and deep mahogany in color with scarlet accents. Faded, thin, creamy tan head. Aroma is instant coffee, cocoa powder and roasted malts. Thin palate feel with roasted malts positioned for center stage. Light accents from chocolate shavings. Dry, powdery finish.
